Has anyone still having there DEF run out quickly after the emissions update? I put roughly 1600 miles a month on my 2019 ram 2500 6.7L and fill up the DEF once a month as well. I have not towed with the truck since last fall. Am I just stuck with this issue or is it possible that the update was not done.

Not sure as I haven’t driven many miles since the flash but the talk was it was supposed to HELP access Def consumption .

Depends how much idleing you do that will affect it causing more regens

My DEF usually lasted around 10,000 miles before filling

It's not deleted. I would love to just so I don't have to run DEF anymore. I do not idle long. I drive highway 50 and 55mph and interstate 60 mph and 80 mpb . My truck regened last month but prior to that it has been 3 or 4 months before it had regened. From what I've researched DEF should consume 235 gallons of DEF a year according to cummins

Are you filling it or just one jug a month

Thats excessive id be visiting the dealer i get that millage on just one jug

Last week i posted about i found a def line not hooked up all the way. Factory obviously overlooked it but have you seen any puddles under truck?

My 2019 used a boat load of DEF and my 2020 uses a lot too. 2000 miles is average for me. My 2018 Ram, I could get way more out of a tank. My 2020 Ford which had a larger tank, I had the truck for 9000 miles and only had to dump one 2.5 gal jug in it before my bias took over and I traded it in for another Ram.

How much fuel? 1600 miles is probably 100 gallons or close.

" The average consumption rate of DEF is between 2-3% of the diesel fuel consumption. For example, for every 100 gallons of diesel fuel consumed, between 2 and 3 gallons of Diesel Exhaust Fluid will be automatically injected into the exhaust system."

All load dependant of course.

With now knowing we have a new president in town, DEF is definitely not going away. I am now considering voiding my warranty and making sure my truck is deleted and smoothie driving like all diesels should. I never thought I would go this far but I think this is the right thing to do now. Our fuel prices are only going to go up and up

DEF was never going away, president doesn’t matter. Plus your def is only for your exhaust, and your engine is programmed to work with no issues with it. Deleting it, sure fun. Smart no, that warranty is worth every penny, won’t get any value on trade or resale without it.

My current truck with Duramax l5p uses about 1 gallon every 1000 miles. Will be interesting to compare it with Cummins HO once it gets here.

Thanks to Covid I only have 3,800 miles and I have used almost exactly 5 gallons of DEF. A lot of idling and a typical trip for me is 2 miles during the week.

That seems excessive.

I agree. I'm not happy. I've mentioned it to the dealer. Very little idling. Mostly pulling about 8k or so. It's hilly around here, and relatively cold. Nothing done to the truck to impact this.
