I know you said you did not need steps in the rear bumper, but the Chassis Unlimited checks off all your other boxes and they have done a pretty good job of not making it too angular.
Guess I could do that. Then have it powder coated. It looks like that bumper is available in raw steel so if you like it other than the step pockets you could have a local weld shop cut them out and close up the hole.
I'll take a look. Didnt like anything I saw at CJC.I assume you already looked, but Thuren has released their high clearance rear bumper for the 19+ trucks. I think it fits nicest of any rear aftermarket bumpers if you're looking for something sleek.
Ooo I like the sound of that. Anytime a sawzall is required I’m game.Thurens is a high clearance bumper that requires you to cut your bedsides.
Guess I'll have to pass then. I have the OEM bed step so it would look stupid as it would be hanging out in never never land.Thurens is a high clearance bumper that requires you to cut your bedsides.
Ah trueGuess I'll have to pass then. I have the OEM bed step so it would look stupid as it would be hanging out in never never land.
I like the look quite a bit.Yea, looked at the Thuren bumper. While it looks good and checks all the boxes, I'm not a fan of the way they trimmed the bedsides.
Almost certainly better. So some thoughts here.
The rear bumper literally bolts to a plate bolted to the frame with 2 bolts on each side and 2 bolts behind the license plate that bolt to a plate on the receiver hitch.
The receiver hitch sandwiches the frame between 2 plates and that is thru bolted thru the frame. 3 bolts per side.
So that got me to thinking. While a new bumper may be cool and all, how well with the D ring shackles hold up if doing a serious pull when the bumper is only bolted with a few bolts? So all of the pull will be on the bolt head and threads.
If I stick with the stock bumper, then I can get a D ring shackle mount on a hitch block that will go into the receiver. I'd think that would be much stronger since all of the bolts and the hitch pin would be used in a double shear situation and not a pulling situation.
I got a message from a buddy who has a prototype set of mounts for me for to mount a set of Baja Design lights into the stock bumper. Just got to provide feedback and pictures of mounting them.
So am I better off staying with a stock bumper and using a hitch D ring shackle?
