Crusty's 75th Annv PW #1590 build/mods adventure

It went OK. Not sure if I like the product or not. Maybe I didnt put enough on? Maybe it was because I was in the sun?
I got a few Nick's putting them on. And a few bad spots.
Looks good from 5 feet.
But dont look too close.
5 footer…hmm…dated a few of those.

It came out pretty good. I think that dipping is harder to get quality than people expect. It gets chunky or snowy worse than anything I've used.

They also make a glossifier that allegedly makes them more shiny, in case you're going for that.

It's easy to get passable results, but hard to get amazone ones.

I'm not too crazy about the overall look of the painted wheels, to Iron Man looking for me. That said, the results do look good in the photos. As for doing the ram heads in black, I would try spraying them with plastidip. There should be enough of a relief to the ram's head to allow you to peel the plastidip off the flat areas of the center caps. Just do a bunch of coats and doing them out of the sun. When applied correctly, plastidip holds up very well.

*Edit: I just saw on the hyperdip site that you should not stack their product and plastidip.

Well had a little accident last week. Everyone is fine.

Old guy down the street turned too wide and ran into the back of my truck, square on, no brakes.

Long story short, he just dropped his wife off to see about being admitted into a nursing home. Old retired Master Chief. Was worried about getting his car home and in the garage.
When i found out he was a brother veteran, and he kind of reminded me of my Grandfather, I lost it a little. Got him in his car and I drove him home and put his car in the garage with a pan under the leaking radiator. Told him to just give me his insurance info and I'd take care of things. For him not to worry about be, but to take care of his wife. I'd call him later.
Wife and i left town for 4 days and just got back. Talked to the insurance company, they got him a rental car and his daughter actually came into town, so he's being taken care of.
I'm going to call and check up on him when I get home.

On to the rest. So I need a rear bumper, top bumper plastic, receiver hitch and all mounting plates and hardware. Insurance has agreed to pay me and I'll fix it. have a small scratch on the bottom of the tailgate and the corner of the fender where the bumper pushed in and rubbed. It should just buff out. The very corner may need a clear coat but is very small.

So now the big question. Aftermarket bumper? Or stick with OEM?

Dont like the AEV bumper.
Talked to insurance about me doing the job. That way I'm not sitting without my truck in some cheap rental while they wait for parts.
Woukd like a semi stock looking bumper but with shackle mounts and LED lights mounted on it flush. No side step holes/slots. I have the factory bed step.

ADD front and rear bumpers.

Westin front and rear

I may be alone here, but I find most aftermarket bumpers lacking in the looks department. The only way I'd go aftermarket is if I was looking for something not offered by the OEM bumper (bumper steps, spare tire carrier, better departure angles, etc.)

I agree to a point.
Don't need bumper steps as I have the bed step.
My 35" spare fits under the truck so don't need a carrier.

Now departure angles, hooks for shackles, LED lights built in may be worth the change. But I'm not a big fan of the current trend with all the angles.

So we've gone from curved bumpers, to tubular bumpers, to angled bumpers.

I agree with you in that most of the bumpers are kinda overly done in my opinion. More flare than function.
