Crap Firestone Transforce tires

Not discounting the crappiness of the tires, but could some peoples issues be that the factory / dealer is sending the trucks out the door with 80+ PSI in them, not to mention all four tires having quite different PSI’s in them? Or least mine did.

Not that lowering the PSI makes them a better tire, but someone on here suggested I lower the PSI to about 60 cold. Did that and dramatically changed the ride and handling characteristics of the tire.
 
On my 2020 Laramie I just stuck with the standard 18” wheel and all season tires. Not what I would have chosen if I were to buy tires but they seem fine. Quiet, no stability problems, wear ok . May see 25 to 30 k miles. Driven in plenty of snow, no issue. 80 to 90 on highway regularity.
 
I waited till about 1500 miles because that’s how long it took to drive the truck in the rain. That was it for me. Changed up for a set of Michelins and got $300 for the transcrap tires on trade and never looked back. Peace of mind and traction in the wet was worth every penny
 
I do not mind the firestones, have 10k miles on them. They do decent in snow, rain, dry and are quiet but seem to wear a little faster than expected.
We just did a trip over the Rockies with a camper trailer, no issues even with going through several snowstorm.
My next tires will be these:
I think Michelin makes the best tires, but they are not a bargain.

I had those Michelins on my ecodiesel, they're excellent warm weather highway/towing tires. Quiet, comfortable, very good in wet it dry conditions, very stable towing a heavy load and they wear like iron.

However they were downright terrifying in the snow, I figured they would be good in the snow considering all the siping, but I think the rubber compound they use to get that 70k tread wear warranty is too hard for cold weather. I drove them in a light snow once, and my wife was with me and even she said half way into the drive that I needed to get a different set of tires for the winter because we were sliding all over the place.

I replaced mine right away with nitto ridge grapplers which I rotated for the first time after 15,000 miles. I have 20k on them now and I’d say they’re at half tread or so. Expecting 40k out of them

Doing the same on my 2022 2500 srw diesel. Tires have 6 miles on them and are being replaced with 285/75/18 ridge grapplers. Bought the truck for what it is not the tires. Wish Ram would offer better tires.
 
In 06 they put good year wranglers on them .14 it came with Trash Force as did my 2020 . No doubt they suck for wear . I got 22 on these and I think I can get 5 more with luck . I hate em but I am cheap .
 
I am cheap, got 27K off the stock 20" transcrap before replacing them. Hard to justify replacement with average tire price in this size well over $300 just for the tire. Hard to believe the michelins are now one of the cheaper options too for a street tire, at least in the 20" size. Primarily road use only, about 1/3 towing, limited amount of muddy fields at work or events and absolutely no snow.
 
Ii have no real issue with the Transforce tires to date. I don't go off-road, or in snow (live in Florida), maybe that's why. I'll run them till they puke.
 
33k on my Transforce tires. Only slight outside tread wear on fronts. Served me well though probably don’t handle as well as better tires. Just got a hole in front passenger tire that doesn’t look patchable (too close to sidewall). So trying to decide on next tires. Front runners are Michelin Defenders but might consider something more aggressive
 
I have gone the michelin defender replacement route on my last 2 rams. Mucho better tire with long life compared to transcrap for a street tire. Unfortunately that exact tread not offered in the stock 20" tire size.

On my 20, figure to order new truck soon. Ran across a very good deal for a set of new take-offs transcrap tires so i went that route.
 
My dilemma is I have the Night Edition and I like the look of the outlined white letters (OWL) on the tire as opposed to the black wall. It’s kind of old school and not many trucks have that. I’d love to replace these tires but I have yet to find a better tire (or any) that have the OWL. I’m guessing there may be options with a different size but not the 285/60 20s.

Personally I went with the Nitto Ridge Grapplers before even taking possession of the truck. Full disclosure my truck will only get 3K miles a year as I only use it for towing my camper and boat. A little winter use. I guess tire choice really comes down to usage. If I was to be putting 15k a year on them I’d have run the firestones and replaced after a year.
 
Almost 20000 miles on my Transforce 245 70R 17 HT E tires. Still have half tread left. Keep 80lbs air in all faithfully and rotate tires 6000 miles. No problems yet. After searching on discount tires site I have come to the conclusion my next set when needed will be the Transforce HT2. I know their cheap but so so am I. Living on limited incomes and our 5th wheel permanently located now I feel these will be adequate. I'm sure others will disagree. Spending 1000 plus dollars on my truck tires just doesn't make sense to me. Maybe for our fifth wheel i might splurge when the time comes.

Most of those aggressive AT tires last about 50-60k miles so you do pay more up front, but you won’t have to pay again for a long time. That helps me justify the cost.
 
Yea I agree about the AT tires. If i bought a 4WD and did a lot of off road I could justify the cost also. My last vehicle i had I ended up buying tires for the age of the tire versus the tread left on them. Since we hit our seventy's we just don't drive much anymore. Different scenarios for different folks.
