CP4 Rattle Vibration Noise (Video Uploaded)

Now that I have filed for Lemon law on this truck I went ahead and pulled the rear Fab Fours Vengeance bumper and re-installed the oem white bumper today. If anyone wants it at a good price in the NW let me know. I still had the brand new front Fab Fours Matrix Winch Front Bumper with Pre-Runner Guard in a box sitting at 4 Wheel parts since January but yesterday told them to reimburse my money on it.

I've have been putting this noise off to just normal noise of the new CP4 pump but has been in the back of my head as maybe it's not normal. So yesterday while I was at my local dealer ordering up some micro iso relays up for my aux switch up grade I stopped by the service center. While waiting there a brand new 2500 truck pulls in to be sold and I have them pop the hood so I could listen to the CP4 pump in it and it was quiet as a cucumber compared to mine. A few minutes later a tech named Nick shows up and we go and look and my truck and I start it up for him and he listens to it and he recommends that I bring it in and document it and maybe put in a star case and see if Ram wants to do anything about it. We go back inside and that other 2500 is still there and we fire that back up and he says yours is definitely nosier than this one. So I go over and make a appointment to bring it in Next Friday to document that it is making noise just in case down the road it blows up and I can't be blamed for bad Diesel fuel and no warranty . Sometimes when you first fire it up it rattles as well, not sure what that means and I only have 1925 miles on my 2500.

Does anyone else CP4 pump sound like this? Turn up the volume and listen and loop it.

I had a friend upload the video to YouTube for me.

My new 2020 RAM sounds the same. Only 500 miles on it.

So after reading and listening to all the videos; it seems this ticking sound is normal?

I got 12,000 miles on mine no bad sounds nothing but the purr of the cummins its a 19 with the non dimpled pump

I'm not going to read every post... mine has sounded like that for the entire 38,000 miles I've driven it.

My 2019 has sounded like that since day one. When I asked my dealer they told me it was normal.
Almost 14k on mine now. Still the same noise.

In case you haven't seen it, FCA is moving to a CP3 inspired fuel pump MID-YEAR on the 2021's. More info **HERE** about that and a possible TSB or some kind of factory fix (though nothing Official Official yet from FCA (sigh).

I took my 2020 Ram (24,000 miles) to the dealership for a new turbo and new DPF. While it was being worked on, they checked the CP4 pump and said it was fine. I pick up the truck, bring it home and now the CP4 pump is making a rattling noise. It wasn't there before now it is. It's kind of annoying.

Thats a normal CP4 sound mine sounds much worse and has for quite a long time the sound wont change if the roller has turned from everything i have read and found.

Wow, I can't imagine it being way louder. I have to roll up the windows when driving cause that's all I hear now. It's just weird that its that loud now after they tested it for the recall.

Mine will buzz much louder at times a slight rev and it quiets down and from my understanding its the mechanical gear pump on the back of the CP4 doing that not the cam/rollers or pumping heads

You may try a stethoscope . I find it easier to isolate a noise or rattle . Dealer put in a an upgraded pump 3 months ago and I haven't noticed any unusual noises . It seemed a little quieter and smoother . Good luck .

I disagree, that's not normal. My CP4 and every other one I've heard did not make that kind of racket.

Same here took it into the dealership and they told me it was the pump and have an order one. Apparently the dealerships can only order 2 pumps per week,,, so i was told. The truck has been sitting for 4 weeks and i’m getting tired of waiting. Champion dealership in Gulfport MS. Just saying
