Clearance/Marker Lights

All you have to do is read the DOT regs, and they explain exactly what the lights are required for- and it’s none of which you just described.
Yup, I read the DOT regs too.. The original design was what I stated, long before DOT made regulations on them..

I think it is quite funny that people think the cab lights are for width clearance--LOL.. If this were indeed the case, your lights would be on the sides of your truck.

Clearance lights, this is why and how they are used: roof mounted for VERTICAL clearance! The idea behind this is that when you drive under a bridge etc. if you see the lights reflecting on the underside of a bridge or whatever, chances are you will have CLEARANCE issues hence the name.
Semi trucks had them first, chances were that if they went under something you would see a faint glow reflected but if you saw a bright spot from each lite then you knew you would have to stop and physically check clearance before proceeding
So what you should stop and creep up to an underpass on the highway to see if you will fit? Also semi trailers are taller than the truck usually so how would the clearence lamps work there….

I already told you... And yes if your in an area where the height of a object is in question you would approach with caution.. There are plenty of pictures with truck out there that had the roofs peeled back because they didn't. A responsible driver would absolutely check.

To imply one would stop on a highway is pretty ignorant knowing that all major roadways have to meet certain bridge heights, not the case with secondary roads..

Like I said, the lights are designed to project light at a specific angle in front of the vehicle, seeing a faint glow reflected on the underside of a bridge (example) is ok, but if you see 5 distinct spots of light, you need to check.
THAT is why they are called clearance lights (I know its English) otherwise the would just be called MARKER lights...

Funny thing is the term Clearance lamps was given to them by the DOT before that they were identification lights with the same description as the DOT gives them… you keep trying we will keep laughing

@Jimmy07 i remember too, some people will never learn!

You can keep trying to re-write history, funny thing is that history was there long before your finger hit google...

Thats not from google… where is your proof to back your theory
Yeah, As I stated before I am well aware of the DOT regs.. Talk to alot of the old truckers, (not steering wheel holders) a few light manufacturers and you will see.. Funny thing is I remember this conversation when I was ten years old at a truck dealer, and that topic came up, that was 1972, before the wise ass remark, I was with my dad..

The OLD TRUCKERS must have told him that too… :D
There are a few other forums beside this one that actually speak the same thing.. but then you also have to be more than 20-30 years old to remember about the clearance lights. Won't be the first time the Government has changed the definition of something, you probably believe that income tax was always associated with your paycheck too, Gov't loves people like you

I remember that post, but then I am on alot of forums.. And it was 'Lil" jimmy picking the fight because he had no clue what he was talking about, I actually spoke with Ram about that and that was the response they told me.. Jimmy reported me because he cannot take it when someone tells him he is wrong..
So you were banned before and decided to comeback and do the same thing that got you banned? I remember the post and jimmy was not wrong only you as usual

You also lied about never posting here before today… sounds like the only thing you know how to do is LIE.

Are you an a$$hole on every one? To be clear, Jimmy didn't report you, you got there all by yourself.

Welcome back.

Too bad a forum software upgrade doesn't let me see your history.

Anyway, Bye!

“I like the pretty lights.”
- The Crow

They came with the snow chief group, which also included I believe the the aux. switches, a bigger alternator and a transfer case skid plate. This was an accessory group I added.

Took a nap this afternoon, anything happen today?

Geez Louise! Within 4 hours - a triumphant return and unceremonious (re-)banning over the silliest point.

The fact is - I dig clearance lights because they look cool from the outside which I never get to see when I’m driving…..

(And I’ve never seen their glow on the ceiling of an overpass but I wasn’t aware that’s what I was supposed to do….).

I’m going to see if I can get a set for my 2012 Honda CR-V.

I like mine. when they function fine. Came on my 2022 3500 SRW. Only problem is they wont turn off ever since I plugged in my 2021 TH. Had to pull the fuse out to turn them off. Wonder if anyone else had this issue?
