Chicken Lights

"Your fuse tap is backwards. Power is supplied from the rear of the truck to the front." Ah, I see. Guess I need to find a new place to pull power. No worries will fix it tonight. Thank You.

I noticed your cab does not have clearance lights either. It does have a fuse and is powered still. This is where I stole power for my relay.

ALSO make sure your bottom fuse is larger then your top fuse on the Tap

Posted this over in the Mods section but a member suggested I post it here as it is similar to other lighting mentioned in this thread. I'm a long time 7.3 Powerstroke guy who turned to Ram so be gentle! :)

Being only a few months into the RAM world and I do not know much of anything about these trucks and especially the wiring. Nor can I seem to find a wiring diagram anywhere.
Thinking of installing the light bars below from Recon and looking for info into where I can actually wire these things. My truck is a '20 Big Horn with the Level II package so I have all the LED lights along with puddle and other lighting amenities.
To install these things I will need Left and Right Turn Signal, Running lights and Courtesy or Dome light wiring.
Thoughts? A wiring diagram would be nice! Been an electrical engineer for 40 years so not scared of jumping in. However, I do know some of these new vehicles with the LED modules can be a pain.

RECON Big Rig Ice

Thanks to all!

@ LILMAN, I'm just a stupid mechanical engineer, so don't follow me, I just know enough to be dangerous. With Can-Bus and our systems not liking heavy draw, I tend to go to the fuse box for switched power. If those LED's are switchbacks, do they have their own controller?

Is it for the rear of the truck? Could you tie into the trailer pin wiring for some of your needs?

Also.... I had a 7.3l power stroke for a short while and loved it. It was a 5 speed, fun to drive but had to let it go with no 4x4 and just couldn't justify keeping it.

:) :) Well I'm just an electrical engineer but all my work is with Military control systems. If this was my old '00 F250 I could have them wired up in about 30 minutes but to your point these new CAN Bus systems are picky. I understand CAN and how it works but how Ram implemented it is another story since CAN is an open bus protocol.

Not sure about the controller. Recon's website doesn't say a whole lot about the internals of these things. Wiring states 4 wires per light bar, Running, Turn, Courtesy or Dome and Ground. I COULD run wire to the rear and tire running and turn into the trailer connector if I have to. The courtesy or dome light connection is another thing altogether. I could always tie a small relay into it and bring power from the battery I just don't know where to tie in at and can find no wiring diagrams at all.

I'll probably take a run out to my dealer next week and see if the service guy will print me at least part of the wiring diagram. Small rural dealer and I have a good relationship with them.

Nd79, the Big Rig Ice are for the sides. They mount up under the body behind my running boards. They have amber running lights and turn signals, plus white side lighting that comes on with dome light. Yes, I can tie the running and turn into the rear, just don't know about the dome light connection.

Still have my 7.3 but she's probably going on the sell block soon. Like you, I can't really justify the cost when It's never used.

That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification. I'm sure you will figure out a clean way to run the needed wiring, and it sounds like it will look great once you do! I really like the idea of the extra lighting on the side, especially for turn signals while towing.

Added some Betts tanker lights for some ground glow but ended up being brighter than I thought.

When I used to drive OTR I loved "Chicken Lights" all over the W900L & Spread Axle Reefer. Keeping them all lit up was a different story.
I purposely didn't get auxiliary switches so I wouldn't go crazy with lights.
