Borla S Type exhaust

Let us know how the powder coat hold up. I have a black tip as well, one my exhaust guy had. And the paint is not holding up well. Seem's to be a lot of heat in the exhaust. Or my lead foot.

No change whatsoever. It really does feel like a stock exhaust system until you roll into it some.
Noticed you are in my area near SLO. Hard to tell how Borla S really sounds through video. Wouldn’t mine hearing it in person to determine if it is too loud. Currently have a Magnaflow & love the mellow deep tone ……until resonance/loud drone hits @ 1500-2000 RPM on highway or towing my trailer. Reviews of Magnaflow said it “didn’t drone” or only had “slight drone.” Drone is so bad I’m about to go to a junkyard to find a used OEM muffler! In fact, if you have your old muffler I’ll buy it!

My Magnaflow direct fit muffler does the same thing - around 1800 RPM it drones a bit. It hasn't been enough to bother me though.

I've contemplated even cutting off the rear resonator as well but I don't want my wife to leave me....

Best choice I did was just cut of the resonator and leave the stock muffler. Yes you can hear it at idle. yes you can hear it when on the gas. No you can't hear it when cruising.
No there is no drone.

Hey @DukeDog, yeah I live in South County. I do have my factory muffler if you are interested. Also - my next door neighbor installed the Solo muffler on his 2021 Ram 2500 and it sounds amazing, with no drone. It says it is for 09-19, but it fits all 2500 and 3500’s through 2022. On the Solo you leave the resonator on, which for me was the reason I went with the Borla. But it is half the cost and a nice piece of craftsmanship too! Here is a link - also let me know if you are interested in the factory exhaust I have.

Thanks for info. I sent you my contact info. so I can check out the OEM muffler you have.

What'd that run you? I get that pricing is super dynamic, but a ballpark is more than fine for my curiousity.

I spent $100, including a black tip. We reused the pipe we cut out as my exhaust guy can't bend 3 1/2" pipe, only 3". But there was more than enough excess to use as the OEM sticks way out and I move dit in and up where it should be.

I know I keep posting about it. But it really is much better and easier. And less cost. Unless you guys are trying to get a loud system, you may be surprised at how good the OEM system sounds without the resonator.

At idle, its a little louder than the magnaflow system on the wife's 5.3 Chevy. But quiter than her's when cruising.

That sounds perfect, and the cost can't be beat. Thanks

Have you posted a sound clip on here already or could you? I'm looking into doing this same mod.

I tried but it didnt work.
If you pm me a email, I'll gladly send it to you.
I dont have any accounts I can post sound clips/videos with.

Sent some sound clips to 2 people of my truck with no resonator. Hopefully they will post their opinion of the sound. Always good to have more than 1 review.
Crusty, your modified exhaust sounds great especially for the price.

I wonder what its like towing heavy up a long grade?

Last trip to Baja, I had 100 Gal of race fuel, 2 40" BFGs mounted on 17" rims, 2 coolers full of drinks, 10 man tent, chairs and a few other things in the bed
Me and my buddy up front with the back seat folded up and it was full.
Plus was towing a 6500 bouncing Betty WWII trailer up a 11% grade hill.
No drone, no issues. Climbed the hill with ease. 23K miles and I've never heard any drone.
This is basically what I was towing.

You should show this pic of it as it shows the routing better and looks great.

Has the heat affected the plastic trim above the tip any?

I had about 50 miles on the truck when I did the resonator delete. It just looks so butt ugly.
And I lucked out that it sounds good. My exhaust guy said to try this first. That's why I listen to him. 25 years later and I'm still using him.

When you get a chance, would you mind sending those clips my way as well? Thanks
