Does anyone know how many inches the "Bed Lowering Function "drops the suspension on a 2019 Ram 3500 limited ? I am not referring to the "Alternate ride height function that is a different thing. I measure the height of my receiver from the ground and hit the button button in the apps menu and measurement stays the same. Thanks for any info on this. Cant find a definitive measurement from Ram. thanks for any help.

1.5 inches I believe
thanks for the reply. I know the alternate trailer height function lowers the truck 1" to 1.5 ". Still not sure that the BED LOWERING MODE located in the apps in the u connect is 1.5". mine does not move at all when I hit the button in the apps. Anybody else have any info? Dealers are not knowledgeable in my dealings so far. Thanks

I just checked mine. I don't think it is working correctly? It lowered my receiver 1/4" but displayed on the dash it was "Lowered". That can't be right.

I agree. It is useless. Mine clicks makes noises like something is happening but doesn't lower a fraction of an inch. Shows "bed low" on dash with no difference in height. What's the purpose of this function then. Bringing truck to dealer on fri. for the 2nd time concerning this. I'll post my findings. Hard to find dealer who really knows these trucks. If it doesn't show a code they're lost. Ask them how much should bed lower and they don't even know or even able to find out for you. Trying to find name of engineer who designed it so I can ask him. Maybe he'll know.:)

Yes, I would be very interested to hear your findings. I know when I hooked up to my boat for the first time, the hitch was just a little high. I thought, no problem, I will just hit the "alt trailer height" button. It lowered down but then gave me a message about payload something or other and raised back up to it's normal height. My salesman had no clue how anything worked.

Yes i'll let you know. My understanding on the 3500's is the Alternate Trailer Height only functions when there is enough of a load to warrant its use otherwise it just reverts to normal height. I know more then my salesman and service manager combined, and I know very little.

The 2019 3500 manual doesn't say how many inches Bed Lowering Mode lowers the truck, but I just measured it at 3/4" on my truck which is disappointingly low.

The manual says that driving above 16 mph will deactivate Bed Lowering Mode, but my truck disables Bed Lowering Mode as soon as I drive 5.1 MPH. Here is a short video demonstrating the behavior.

The 2019 3500 manual states ATH requires a load on "most 3500 models" which, as far as I can tell, is 100% of the 3500's. My 2019 3500 won't enable ATH with 400 lbs of tools in the bed, so it seems to require a substantial load to enable ATH.

Good info. But if your truck only lowers 3/4" and its working correctly it is useless imho. 3/4" might make a difference in some aspects of life ;)but not when pertaining to the truck bed lowering mode. Seems like a useless gimick from Ram. I have a travel trailer and fully loaded weighs 8800 lbs. so its about 900lbs on the tongue and the alt. trailer height will display stating not enough of a payload to engage or something like that. If I put the wife in the bed it might lower the bed more then the bed lowering mode does and she only weighs about a 110 lbs. I have a 3500 dually limited with HO diesel ,max tow package etc. and I am finding most of the bells and whistles I had to have are useless and or not needed. Next truck will be much simpler. Less stuff to be disappointed with.

I had the same question for my 2500, as a point of reference here are the measurements to the bottom of the hitch receiver opening:

Standard = 20.6"
Alt Trailer Height = 19.6"
Bed Lowering Mode = 18.0"

These were measured with no payload since it is a 2500. The bed lowering mode drops the suspension onto the bump stops, so you really couldn't drive around in that configuration.

Thanks for the details. Obviously our bed lowering (mine and ram-a-lam) are not working correctly. I will check again when I get a minute to see how far away I am from the rear bump stops.

My 3500 doesn't move a single millimeter when I select bed lowering mode. I figure it is just being held up by the leafsprings so even deflating the air bag won't really allow it to come down at all. Also probably why alternate trailer height wont activate until there is enough weight in the bed to compress the leafsprings. The 2500 is different since there are no springs to hold the back up.

I tow with the ride height set at the alternate ride height setting - this makes the truck level to within a 1/4 inch measured from the top of the wheel arches.

To unhitch the trailer, I wind the tongue jack until it's just starting to take the trailer weight, then unlatch the hitch, and hit the bed lowering button, and it drops low enough to drop the ball out of the hitch - then just need to pull forward a little to remove the hitch.

So do you think all 3500's wether they're DRW or SRW do not move at all? Bed Lowering mode suggests to me the bed should lower. If its on the truck one would think something should happen

i wonder if transport mode will make it lower? i have found you need 1000lbs or above to use the alternative height option.

It's pretty well known the 2500 coils/air bed lowering is COMPLETELY different than the 3500 leaf/air.

2500 should be approx 3".

The 3500 is only reported to be an inch. Which IMHO is pretty useless. I guess the bags are just not carrying much weight unladen.

Here's an update. Scheduled on Mon or tues. to bring truck to dealer today at 7:30 am. This is not dealer I purchased truck from because I shopped for price and that dealer is too far from my home. Arrived at scheduled time and was told they weren't going to look at my truck and to leave, that they looked at it before and I'm wasting their time. I asked them why didn't you call me and cancel instead of me taking a day off from work and drive 35 miles to dealer. when I insisted on seeing service manager he had 5 minutes to argue with me but didn't have 1 minute so I could show him that truck doesn't lower at all. Finally shows me a print out of the Alt. trailer height bulletin and I told him I've been clear that I'm referring to the Bed lowering mode and you keep showing stuff about the Alt. trailer height mode. Two different things. Was told that he couldn't pull "any strings "with Ram since I didn't buy from him I called Bulls**t on that. He threatened to call cops and I told him please do after calling him a few choice words. Scheduled service with original dealer. All I want to know is if bed lowering mode doesn't lower bed show me where Ram States that but they can't. Not happy and next truck wont be a Ram. Rant over.

Sorry you are having such a hard time getting a simple answer that we are all curious about. I had a terrible service experience with my 2015 3500 when the headliner was falling down and the dealer closest to my house just absolutely screwed up in every way conceivable. I swore I would never buy another Ram ever again. On memorial day weekend, a beautiful pearl white 3500 with the night package caught my eye at another, farther away dealership. I have had nothing but an amazing experience with that farther dealer and service department. Even though they kinda botched the power running board installation, they were extremely quick to let me know exactly what was going on and how they were going to fix it to my satisfaction. Mistakes happen, it is how they recover from those mistakes that makes all the difference. It can be worth a bit of a drive to go to a dealership that actually cares about their customers.

Man, that s***s, sorry to hear that dealer is giving you the run around. It sounds like they have an obvious bias towards you as you purchased the truck from someone else. When things calm down, You will realize it is not Rams fault but rather that particular dealer. I was really looking forward to your resolution too ......
