There are several monitoring devices that you can buy to monitor your regen activity, for me the trucks DPF gauge is worthless and I think is one of the main problems why folks aren't understanding what the truck is actively doing all the time. I use the ScanGauge III from Linear Logic, and monitor DPF load %, when regen on/off, hours in the 24 hour cycle, two EGT readings, and estimated miles between regens. You can actively see the soot load % go up and down while driving, when in most cases the truck dash gauge isn't showing anything. For me it's really the only way to see what's actively going on, and know when I need to drive it to complete a 24 hour full active regen.
