Automatic Regen too often

Right, but isn’t the CP4 capable of 30k psi and the CP3 only capable of 26k psi? If they are running at different pressures then it seems like it would make sense for a different injector?

They run the same pressures on the CGI engines.

All Ram HD’s 2021 model year and newer come from the factory with the CP-ISB21 which is the updated version of the CP3. The CP4 was only used in 2019 and 2020, and both model years are eligible for a CP4 to CP-ISB21 swap out under recall.
Technically, it's the CP-ISB19 as the housing/clocking are setup different due to the difference in timing cover backing plate on the 19-20.

I think y'all jinxed me. Had a 80 mile active regen trip!

Puttering around town. Figured it would passive regen when I hooked up to tow. It actually went up a little on the gauge and started an active regen while towing. Took 30 miles to finish.

Ugh. Hope it was just a one-off.

Well 80 miles beats mine. After getting my truck back with new injectors.....I drove it for a few days and it's gone back to it's old ways. Made it 14 miles before it threw a regen. It seems to clear them more rapidly (or was), but Regens just about as often.

I got a notice regarding some recalls as well on 2019 trucks, looks like they may be admitting to a problem at this point. That said, I'm thinking the damage to my rig has already been done and likely the consistent failing of injectors may have lead to irreparable harm.

Recall notice is "emissions recall VB6" and appears to be the replacement of all emmisons related equipment. All of mine has already been replaced, so I doubt this solves anything.

The good news is that the dealership did the oil change, so they can't blame me.

Do you know if that swap out includes new injectors?
It includes injectors, high pressure pump, lines ,filters and in tank pump only if there is failure of high pressure pump. If no failure you get high pressure pump.

VB6 was released back in 2020 for the 2019 trucks. It’s the emissions programming update that came about as a result of the Cummins / EPA litigation. The notice that’s been circulating around recently is a notice of an emissions warranty extension as a result of that recall being applied. (Also applies to the 67A recall for 2013-2018 trucks that does the exact same thing). Its basically reprogramming the emissions system to utilize DEF across a wider operating range than the trucks had previously done. 2020 and newer trucks already came from the factory with the updated programming.

My understanding the VB6 is just a pcm flash. If you read other forums the owners said it was just a computer related update, and all they noticed were more frequent regens (as if any of us with '22+ need that), and increased DEF usage. Now these are guys with 2019-2020 model trucks so I'm not sure why a '22 has this listed as a needed recall

Then I clearly misread the notice I received in the mail today regarding the recall. Looks like I'll just have more emmissions parts thrown at a likely symptom, rather than a solution.

arent there differences however with how it can affect injector pulse / timing ect? i ask cause there was some issues with the ecodiesel when they did the cp4 recall. it changed the injector timing.
Absolutely not. There’s not even a flash involved when doing the recall on a ecodiesel. All that pump does it supply high pressure fuel and that’s it. There’s a fuel quantity solenoid on it to command whatever fuel pressure is needed

VB6 should not cause any regeneration issues.

After re-reading it, everything makes sense. The below listing of items got me somewhat excited as i was mislead in believing it was almost an admission of faulty items.

Sadly, it's just a list of stuff that they are extending warranties on that arent likely to resolve any issues.

Maybe it was just the 24hr mandatory regen.

LOL, No. 6 hours.

Again, town puttering, running errands. HTH I put 6 hours on with only 80 miles is a mystery. Yea, it gets remote started and idles more than I'd like, but still...
The amount of time just sitting at stop lights and sitting in line at the drive through add up quickly then add on warm up's

Yeah it’s amazing how fast they can add up. The idle timer must look for anytime the truck is not moving and engine running regardless of whether it’s in gear or not.

I asked about this when I first got my 2022, I was told idle time is counted anytime the engine is running and not moving, its the main reason why I seldom will use the drive through, that an I hate wasting $4.00 gallon diesel sitting in line waiting to get coffee or food...

I hear you on the drive thru. I don’t like getting crumbs all over everywhere. I cut my truck off when I go to the bank drive thru.

I would like to remind everyone that if you are having multiple early regens, you need to keep an eye on your oil. I change my oil early anyway but some people run theirs the full 15K miles. With it regening even every 300 miles, that puts the oil in jeopardy of having too much fuel in the oil and that can exasperate the regen frequency. Not exactly on topic but just a heads up.

Update on Archoil,

still on the same tank of fuel but went into regen at 700 miles. which is a little longer then before archoil. i need to look at my pictures but took about 40 miles to clear itself up. after 80 miles of driving since the guage still reads 0% so we will see. This weekend im towing 12-13k 300 miles so i doubt ill see any increase between now and Tuesday. Ill fuel up tommorow and fuel up monday more then likly on the way back and add some additive each time.

I know due to the way these regens go, i have been doing my oil changes about every 6500. more for a peace of mind. my next oil change will be at 100,000 miles. and ill do fuel filters then as well.

Update:

I have 1/4 tank of fuel left with the Archoil 6400D fuel system cleaner in the fuel. Currently 377 miles and 10 engine hours since last regen cycle finished. DPF screen on the instrument cluster is still showing 0%. The iDash DPF % REG is now reading 48%. This is unquestionably the best performance I’ve had since cold weather. I have no doubt the archoil is doing exactly what it claims to, as my driving habits have not changed. No changes to the truck itself either. My order of the 6500 daily fuel treatment arrived so I’ll be adding that to the next tank of fuel in a day or so. I’m hoping the daily archoil performs as well as the fuel system cleaner has. So far, the archoil has won the prize of being the only additive I’ve used so far that does exactly as it claims to.
