Are fuel additives recommended? (Dealer says no)

Those of us stuck in CA with ULSD would beg to differ....

Hard to tell who or what is quality these days. But I agree if you have a good brand then should be good.
 
I've been running Sheetz 40 diesel with a healthy dump of PowerService Disel Kleen. I hear folks talk about the Hot Shot product, but it is not nearly as easy to find and costs far more to use compared to Power Service. I have yet to find anyone who say that they had a failure related to any short comings of Power Service, the Hot Shots seems to be objectively placed on the top of the list, I assume partly due to it's higher price and folks want to feel that they are buying a better product for that price. Placebo effect.

Power service is also the only one endorsed and approved by Cummins

I'm in Califunny and I "don't beg to differ".
The last time I looked, Califunny was among the highest quality fuel specs, so much better than a lot of states. I want to say the highest quality specs, but can't remember for sure.
What makes you say what you said?

One thing California does not have is minimum pump filtration law compared to most states so it could stand to reason you don't have the cleanest fuel but i dont work for the stations that chose what filter to use (if any)

All the discussed products are good, however
Power Service costs 1.12 to treat 25 gals. EDP cost 1.21 to teat 25 gals. I wouldn't say EDP costs "far more" but I might say it provides far more effectiveness. :D

How does one quantify effectiveness?

2022 Patriot Blue 3500 Dually Limited Longhorn 6.7L with 4.11 gears.

EDP is just much harder to get my hands on unfortunately

Good question. I have no idea, just going by the advertising. Like I said, they are all good, was just making a point about cost.
