Anyone run without a spare?

(I am going to jinx myself and catch a flat today for asking this.)

I run my '68 and '95 Land Cruisers without a spare, just a compressor and a great plug kit in each. If I ever get stuck somewhere, that should be enough to get me out. If I'm in the middle of nowhere and that setup doesn't work to fix it, then the tire is likely already trashed and I can slow roll out to somewhere to get a tow. And there's roadside assistance everywhere else.

But that's on my off-road rigs.

Do any of you run your trucks without a spare to keep weight down a bit? I don't think I'm going to do it, but I'm debating it this morning as I take my first coffee break from Spring cleaning the garage.

I have been driving since early 70's and knock on wood have only needed a spare a couple of times and really only one time was the tire damaged bad enough that just a simple plug would not have worked. I carry a spare but not sure why.

I have never needed my spare on a vehicle but on long trips i usually bring 2 spares for both the trailer and the truck, i got stranded once with a trailer without a decent spare and vowed to never have it happen again

It’s all good till you get stuck without one. I went 230,000 mile without a spare. About a month ago I ran over a metal plate in the road and had a blowout. I was stuck in a bad area and had limp to a gas station. The gas station only had used tires. Spend $50 bucks on a used tire and killed 3 hours of my day. I now have a spare in that car!

So, what you're saying is "you can run 230,000 miles without a problem." I like it.

Ha. Sorry about your torn up shoe. In some places you can get your local town/city to pay for the cost of damage in a non-collision accident on their roads. YMMV.

I think you're right. A trailer spare is a different story.

Depends on your usage

I don’t carry a spare in the Toyota because
A: weight
B: one tire costs $850

I don’t carry a spare in the Porsche because the space saver is 35 years old and I don’t trust it. It’s a non-family car I drive for leisure. Roadside is cheap even though they might take hours.

But I definitely always 100% carry a spare in the Ram and I also have a trailer spare in the Ram. My family could be with me or I could be towing.
