Aisin vs 68rfe

So I’ve owned a 2018 and 2019 both with a 68rfe. I test drove an aisin last year before I got my 19. I’m looking at ordering a limited black appearance 3500, the sales manager was trying to talk me into getting the aisin. Would you even if you didn’t need it? Is it really a way better transmission? How does fuel economy differ between the two?
 
I can't answer which is better but I have read many post where the Aisin gives much more towing power.
 
The gearing between the two is close enough that fuel efficiency differences would be minimal. What you're getting with the Aisin is strength. If you're not going to tow or haul heavy, there's not a lot of point to the aisin from a feature perspective.
 
If I'm not mistaken, the only way you can get the Aisin transmission is with the H/O Cummins. It has the 1000 Lbs of torque engine. I love my 2020 H/O
 
This is true, it's not just a transmission change, but also an engine upgrade. I went with it because at the time I ordered, the 68rfe was taken off lots for a recall and after reading through tons of threads on here I thought of the two engine/trans combos, the HO/Aisin would give me a better shot at longevity. I guess only time will tell now if I made the right decision.
 
be sure to check the service intervals between the two as well. there are differences you may not be willing to mess with.
 
fluid change at 30k & fluid/filter change at 60k intervals
 
Note that Aisin = HO Cummins = lower MPG since you said that is a consideration for you. Not Aisin`s fault, the HO is just much more thirsty.
 
If you order or buy the HO the Aisin is the only option. I ordered the HO to get the bulletproof Aisin. You just don't see any posts of an Aisin having problems. While the tuners have a tune for the 68rfe they have a more powerful tune if you have an Aisin. The 68rfe has to be modified to handle the more powerful tune - that should tell us something About the Aisin.

Some complain about the Aisin shifting, I am completely satisfied with my 2020 HO & Aisin. The only negative is the Aisiin is 6 speed and all the current hype is for 8 speed. IMO that's what it is "hype". As for MPG, it's a 1 ton truck, if you are buying for MPG get an Ecodiesel. The HO Aisin gets decent mileage for a 1 ton. I haven't been on a trip with mine yet but my brother consistently gets 18-20 on the freeways and sometimes 22mpg. That's nearly as good as my Ecodiesel gets.

If I had a complaint about my 2020 HO Aisin it's the lag which is in all of today's diesels. It's tolerable but I got a tune that removes the lag which makes me an even happier camper.

the 68 does not need to be modified for a tune. the driver needs to be modified, in most cases.

I'd be sure your articulation of knowledge sharing on a given use case is updated

that link is simply emissions in tact tuning with available soft for various power levels. that type of tuning is available fairly easily.

don't bit on every marketing ploy you see in the diesel world. that stuff runs rampant.
 
My reply was to, with proof, correct a statement you made, that's all. And you respond by questioning the integrity of a well known and respected company like Calibrated Power - unbelievable!

I know the AISIN is the only option for the HO
 
Love my Aisin. Don't even notice hauling 13k behind it. I had a 16 ram 2500 6.7 rfe short bed that i pulled the same 13 k fiver and averaged 11 mpg were on the new big rig I'm down to 9.5 average. Biggest difference for me is when were just tooling around and not pulling anything. The new big rig only gets around 12.5 on average when on my 2500 rfe , it would average anywhere between 22-28 mpg depending on how I drove. In saying all that. The rfe limits your hauling capabilities and with the aisin the sky is the limit, if you need it, not everyone does. I didn't, until I did then had to trade, wished I bought the big boy the first time. LOVE IT.

iIf you are not towing and do not want the hd then get the 68rfe. I had one in my 14 but when iI got my 20 I went with the Aisin because it maintains cooler temp the towing .
