Aisin shifts FAST, just doesn't feel "normal"

The Aisin in my 2024 3500 shifts ridiculously fast, meaning when taking off from a stop, the damn thing is in 6th gear before I even make 40 mph. It runs through the gears, even under acceleration, faster than anything I've ever owned. Truthfully, it makes it kinda hard to have any "fun" with the truck off the line because its ALWAYS in-between shifts! It doesn't do what I'm used to with other vehicles, including my 06 5.9, which is to hold gears a bit longer and wind out a little under acceleration before it grabs the next gear. This truck? No. Get on the throttle (or not) and it just sweeps though all 6 gears blam blam blam. I feel like Im gonna hurt something when accelerating hard (which I don't do often) with it constantly shifting like that. Is this normal behavior for the HO/Aisin?

You bought the wrong rig if you want to have "fun." The 3500 high output with aisin is for towing. For fun, you honestly need a different vehicle.

That said, you can improve its pick-up by using tow/haul and deselecting the exhaust brake.

He isn’t wrong though.

The factory shift points on the Aisin are absolutely ridiculous. The truck is in such a rush to get into 6th gear.

I’m not defending the quick upshifting, but It’s done to improve fuel economy.
I have an International dump truck with an Allison 3500RDS that does same thing. It’s in 5th gear by 25MPH.

The “Big 3” are not just in HP wars, they’re also in MPG wars.

With the gearing in a medium-duty dump truck, that’s to be expected.

With the gearing in a 1 ton, being in 6th gear at 50mph is questionable at best.

It’s not medium duty. It’s a class 8.
But it’s done to keep fuel economy numbers as high as possible and to keep the low revving in line 6 ~2,000RPM. If it held gears longer, it would rev higher, use more fuel, and wear the motor out faster.

Also depends on the rear ratio. Also it helps the engine last longer since it keeps RPMs low. 6.7Cummins doesn’t like to rev. It wants to keep the RPM’s low to keep efficiency at its best and wear at it’s lowest.
I’m not saying I like it. I’m saying the engineers at Ram make the truck upshift quickly to keep the accountants and penny pinchers happy on fuel consumption and wear & tear.
Mine has 4.89’s and get’s into 6th by ~50. I’m happy with that, because my truck was built to tow heavy. If I had 3.73’s, I wouldn’t be as happy.
