Active Lane Management

Just purchased a 2025 Ram 2500 Laramie with the Level 2 Plus Group. Doesn’t seem like the vehicle is correctly seeing the lane markers.
On the highway, lanes clearly marked
And it’s not indicated so on my dash. I had hoped the ALM would do a much better job keeping the truck in lane. As I said even with clearly marked lanes I’m drifting across the markers with occasional minor steering wheel adjustments. Would have had immediate accidents if i relied on the ALM.

What have others experience been?

Thanks
Joe

Relied on ALM? It’s not an auto pilot system, it’s a basic attempt to keep the truck in the lane should you not be very good at it lol. As they state in the video, it is not even a lane centering system.

I use it when I am not towing occasionally as it reminds you to stay focused but when towing I turn it off, find it induces sway/annoying feel.

First vehicle that has ever had this. I think it depends too on how much you have it set at too. But I agree it helps some but not all the way and mine seems to crowd the center line.

I knew it wasn’t autopilot; however…We have a 2019 Subaru crosstrec that has this feature and at best you Pingoing from one side of the lane to the other, if you hold a light grip to see what the system is capable of…was hoping for better. I’ll do see in the ALM setting's there is one which control how soon the correction starts, I’ll try that see if it improves.

I've played with it in my '25 and it's no better than my '22, ping pong is the best I ever got. For me I use it on long travel days as a "just incase" to help with lane departure but otherwise it's of no help. Ram is definitely behind on their driving aids vs other manufacturers (to be fair I hav enough experience with any other HD trucks driving aids). My wives Accord just drives itself down the highway for hours on end its very enjoyable experience on roadtrips I do wish the Ram was closer to that vehicles capabilities.

OR.... just pay attention to the road and drive straight? The system is designed to vibrate at the wheel to let you know HEY pay attention, in case you saw a cool airplane, a nice view, look back at your kids, etc. Not to continuously be in use.

I think that's the intention of the system...its an AID not a baby sitter.

This statement is a head scratcher...unless your Ram is just a show toy...its apples and oranges why people buy an HD truck vs an accord. The capabilities are not even close or comparable.

If you want autopilot, look into comma.ai.

But yea, most modern cars now not made by Stellantis have at least level 2 driving assist. The wife's Sorento is really good at it.

Stellantis devs can't even get their radio code sorted out, let alone a reliable auto drive system.

While I’m loving the truck! The Laramie Plus 2 has tons of features, comfort and power .. It still can be a bit disappointing that for $90k, I’m getting Lane Assist technology that’s at least 6 years old. But hey that’s just me, maybe my expectations are too high.

Its a TRUCK.... heavy duty one at that. Its not a car, nothing disappointing about it. Again just pay attention to the road. Unsure why youd rely on something like that so heavily, hell mine has been turned off in my truck since i bought it. If you want a auto drive vehicle buy a tesla.

I test drove a model 3 - I was very impressed with the auto pilot( I think it was like a 8K upgrade or $99 per month). Overall I was very impressed with the Tesla, although I want to see a Lucid as well.

The instant torque is also no joke on these Electric vehicles!

Thats the point, we almost exclusively take the HD truck on the long trips as we tow our RV for our travels. The 5 year old Honda technology beats the brand new HD truck and I wish Ram had closed the gap in that time to make those long trips easier.

Define easier?

I don't find traveling 1250 miles on our trips hard. I honestly don't care about lane management in anything I drive....especially towing.

For example the mental fatigue for example driving I70 across Kansas is lower with adaptive cruise control than without. Doing the same drive with lane keep/steering is even easier.

I am not sure what you tow, but I found on our 2024 Chevy DRW with adaptive cruise to be very irritating when towing(I turned off lane keep assist during the test drive and never turned it back on).

When cars would pull in front of me the adaptive cruise would brake hard to compensate, very bad with a 16K trailer. Also when the truck would attempt to hit the target speed after being slowed down, it was jarring with a 16K trailer.

Also switching lanes to pass a slower car with adaptive cruise was a problem, if you didn't move over early enough the truck would sense the car in front and actually slow you down as you are in the middle of switching lanes which was bad for the traffic behind me, now I have to gain momentum again and speed up and pass.

I am not even sure with a 40 ft 5th wheel any lane management would work well.

People merging in the space I left for braking zone is 100% the most frustrating thing I find when towing with or without adaptive cruise on. I don't find it to hard to watch out for those jerks and then plan accordingly by taking over or cancelling adaptive cruise. Not sure steering would work great with a 5th wheel either but I don't have the option to even find out with Rams technology currently :)

Well, I can tell you adaptive cruise and lane keep assist in the Chevy platform sucked when towing - so not sure you are missing anything.

People must be reading and replying to another thread. I obviously knew I was buying a truck and self driving was never mentioned or desired. Stellantis DECIDED to add “Active Lane Management”, my POINT is, once THEY made that decision, they could have at least used the most recent technology in their implementation.
However, look at how many YEARS it took them to correct far more important known issues with the six speed transmission and the engine; one of the main reasons I finally pulled the trigger on the 2025.

However, much as it would be pointless to argue why do I like brown instead of blue, this discussion has moved in that pointless direction. So I’m signing off on this one.

Certainly your prerogative. I saw that Stellantis had grouped ALM, in the Plus2 option package for over $4k, was hopping for better implementation.

Guess I am just old school...drove for 38 years without it so staying in the lane isn't an issue(never forgot my kids/grandkids in the back seat either - turned that feature off in the Ram too).
