How many idle and run hours do you have in the 20k miles ? I have a 22’ also bought in the summer of 23’. Have 18,340 miles on mine at the moment and if I do a lot of short tripping and stop and go, my DPF gauge will start going up. I can give it a good run on the highway or hook up to the TT and it will passively regen back to zero.Well, I made it through this mega-thread! I have 2022 2500 Big Horn used for my business. It constantly threw error codes with the factory air filter. The codes started at 2K miles. They changed the Mopar filter for another one at no cost. I put a WIX filter in it 5 months (and 7K miles) ago. It still kept putting up "frequent regen" codes. I brought it to the dealer mistakenly thinking it would be under warranty (bought the truck as a leftover in the summer of '23 and it only has 20K miles on it). According to the tech, I am "idling" too much causing soot buildup. My business often works in NYC and surrounding cities in NJ. As you can imagine, there is constant stop and go traffic. We never let the truck sit and idle at jobsites... hell, I have instructed my employees to not even use the remote start!
Dealer claims the recent issues were due to the WIX filter... even after I reminded them it happened with the first two Mopar filters. They charged me $500 to do a "soot cleaning." Am I an idiot (don't answer that!!) for thinking a $90K truck shouldn't need a soot cleaning at 20K miles? I have 2 Duramax trucks and this crap doesn't happen to them.
23% idle hours. I don't remember the numbers and the truck is on a jobsite now.How many idle and run hours do you have in the 20k miles ? I have a 22’ also bought in the summer of 23’. My self would not ever use a Fram air filter on my truck again, tried them in my 2006 5.9 it would cause the filter minder into suck into the red about every 1K that was after having to return it to get one that fit the filter box, finally went back to using Fleetguard air filters, have never had any problems including my in 2022 that is said to be picky...The Fleetguard filter claims to be equivalent to the Fram CA10261 which sells for $20 at WM. It ‘s difficult for me to understand why this should be such a sensitive issue. My farm tractors and construction diesels have “double” filters.(probably due to their off-road use) which consist of a pleated-pater outer filter and a fibrous/poly inner cylindrical filter. The outer filters are changed and/or washed on regular schedules per the mfr’s and the inner is Never removed except for a complete replacement (at prescribed intervals such as the 2nd outer filter change. They also have “swirl” devices incorporated to “spin-out” heavy dirt/bugs/etc.)
I’m surprised these Cummins don’t have at least as sophisticated system…but it is what it is.
Running the FG AF27684 in my 22’ as well with no problems. My self would not ever use a Fram air filter on my truck again, tried them in my 2006 5.9 it would cause the filter minder into suck into the red about every 1K that was after having to return it to get one that fit the filter box, finally went back to using Fleetguard air filters, have never had any problems including my in 2022 that is said to be picky...
It must have been filtering-out/catching a lot of dirt your other filters passed thru…heh? My self would not ever use a Fram air filter on my truck again, tried them in my 2006 5.9 it would cause the filter minder into suck into the red about every 1K that was after having to return it to get one that fit the filter box, finally went back to using Fleetguard air filters, have never had any problems including my in 2022 that is said to be picky...
I've never had dirt get past any Fleetguard air filter I've used over the past 19 years, but for some reason the several Fram filters I tried ( and would fit the box properly) would cause the filter minder to pull into the red, for the few $$ I saved would rather have an filter I can trust 100% if the time and not worry.....It must have been filtering-out/catching a lot of dirt your other filters passed thru…heh?
The correct filter is only $29.95 + shipping at Geno’s. $30.95 if you want the FleetGuard. It must have been filtering-out/catching a lot of dirt your other filters passed thru…heh?
Next time try the FleetGuard AF 27684 air filter. Basically the same filter as the AB filter and probably made in the same plant.Year model 2200, 3500 6.7… My Air Filter / Excessive Regen (P2459) started after my dealer flashed my ECM while I had it in for a complimentary oil change in March 2023. They said they had to do it because of the Fed lawsuit. Was using Fram filters for years on other trucks and this one with no issues. Fram and Wix caused excessive regen. Stopped at a dealer in SC for a Mopar. Issues solved or I thought it was. Ordered two 53034051AB filters from Genos. One caused the excessive regen issue again, replaced it with the second one I bought and it worked fine. Several month later I bought 2 more from Genos. Same issue, one worked one didn’t. Geno’s had no answers, saying no one was have problems with the AB filters. I bought 2 more in November from Geno’s, both caused the excessive regen issue again. I put the old used filter back in, everything is good. 3 out of 6 filters from Geno’s caused P2459, the other three were fine. I run approximately 1800 miles or more a week towing. So I buy filters ahead of time to have them on the shelf. Geno’s did nothing. The latest call to my dealer advised to replace the Mass Air Flow sensor on the filter box. They are back ordered until March. The pics are the latest 2 new filters that did not work and the used one that did.
How many extra regens did you get before you changed out the new filter for another one ? Chances are you could change back to the original new filter and it be fine. These trucks, or atleast mine, seem to go into protect mode if the intake flow changes whether it gets better or worse. I would try the other filters again and see if it starts continuously short regening or only does it once or twice.Year model 2200, 3500 6.7… My Air Filter / Excessive Regen (P2459) started after my dealer flashed my ECM while I had it in for a complimentary oil change in March 2023. I just put a New Fleet Guard AF27684 in. I haven't run any miles yet. I compared all four Filters (2 new Mopar AB, 1 used old Mopar AB and the new Fleet Guard)Next time try the FleetGuard AF 27684 air filter. Basically the same filter as the AB filter and probably made in the same plant.
They or some are very picky. I had been running my truck with some of the AGS slats removed and decided to put them back in after running it for a while with them out. Next drive after reinstalling the slats it went into regen. The AGS has nothing to do with the air filter or anything else on the engine but it does have an effect on the airflow coming to the air filter box. Needless to say they are no longer in there.I just put a New Fleet Guard AF27684 in. I haven't run any miles yet. The Used Mopar AB that I did not have issues with fit very snug in the air box and weighed 1 lb 4.4 oz
The New Mopar AB Filters were slightly loose or sloppy in the air box, mean it would move slightly and weighed 1 lb 4 oz.
The New Fleet Guard was very snug in the air box and the lid was very tight. The orange seal was about 1 mm wider .It weighed 1 lb 0 oz
This must have something to do with the air flow across the MAS, either to much or to little. I just don't know why the programing is so sensitive. Or its just a picky sensor.
Well, the Fleet guard filter is working perfectly. I’ve driven over 700 miles towing and had one passive region that lasted for 28 miles. That was upon startup when the engine was cold. Which is normal for my truck. From my research, it appears that the Mopar filters seem to be causing a restriction in the airflow to my turbo. This may be an isolated situation for just my truck. But I don’t know. Looking into replacing the stock cold air intake with a Banks cold air intake system to increase the airflow to the turbo. They or some are very picky. A lot of people have had trouble with the various CAI systems. The stock air intake system flows a lot of air. Regardless of how straight or how big the tubing is from the filter to the turbo, it is still going to be limited by the amount of air that can get to the filter coming through the RamAir scoop on top of the radiator and it’s associated tubing before the air filter box. With the AGS slats removed, I get bugs, grass and dirt in my air filter. Not the black greasy stuff it got before.Well, the Fleet guard filter is working perfectly.
