21 Aisin lockup question

Quick question for the folks that have a 21, how does your lockup strategy behave on the 1-2 and 2-3 shift, does it shift and slip/stay uncoupled then lockup feeling like an additional shift or does it lock on the shift eliminating the typical converter slip feel? My truck is staying unlocked and I swear the 2020 I test drove felt locked and way more positive on 1-2 and 2-3 shift.

Not a 21, but on my 20, as the (still low @<5000) miles roll on, I'm noticing the lockup "shift" more than I did before. Not like the 2nd or 3rd gear split of my old 48RE, but noticeable.

I honestly haven't thought to check, but is it possible to read lockup from the Aisin using Torque, AlfaOBD, or similar?

On my '19, I don't know how describe it other than it does sort a of "double tap" that feels like lock-unlock-lock, and I find it very annoying.

I’d for sure say mine feels just as bad or noticeable as one of my old 48re trucks on the 1-2 shift, I’m pretty bummed because the 20 I test drove was flawless and a big part of the reason I pulled the trigger on ordering a 21. It felt so good I almost didn’t believe it was an aisin. I’m going to stop by the dealer this week and drive another 21 they have sitting on the lot that is a similar configuration to my truck. One of the main reasons I went for the aisin over the 68 was because of the firm locked up feeling it had, it was quick to upshift (some people hate, I love it) and used the low end grunt of the Cummins like a manual trans can. Staying uncoupled in 2nd feels like garbage and when putting any fuel to it just makes the lockup even more noticeable at the top of 2nd

My 21 Aisin shifts like you described with the additional lockup in 2nd. The 2-3 shift is still hard when the toy hauler is attached.

Bringing this one back up in case any other new aisin owners missed it

My '20 definitely shifts different with the Mar flash update they did last week. But it could all be plecebo or AISIN relearn. "Feels peppier?" almost like a throttle booster. My avg MPG is down to 15.1 from 16.0, Probably all in my head/right foot.
