Possibly ordering a 26 3500 diesel this spring. It might be my imagination and it is still early but it seems that there are very few mechanical issues with the lastest iteration of 6.7s. At least by looking at the various forums out there. I guess given the issues with the 2019 to 2024 motors, I am a bit gunshy. There must be a reason that Cummins when back to a cast iron block. And the ten year power train warranty is a plus as well. I will decide in about four months if I am pulling the trigger. I miss my old 2003 5.9.

All I've heard about is somewhat random electrical issues.

I was considering making a move from my 22, but think I'll go with the Hamilton Cam conversion instead.

You might want to wait, 25-26 are very glitchy, I have a 25 5500 Laramie that was in my possession for 10 days 2800km and has been down for 45 days now. Was at dealer today, now they’re not sure if it EGT sensor 5 or a software issue.

Quite a few electrical gremlins so far, I'm having problems with my nav (not) working, others are having cluster problems, and other sensor problems.

I’m starting to believe that a lot of these issues may not be sensor or module related. It may be an ECM issue with holding the integrity of the software. Had a problem with my 2020 that was very similar

So far engine has been fine on my 25 knock on wood but electrical wise this thing is driving me crazy. Lately I’ve been having an issue where I’ll have say 3/4 way full of def then it was just drop to almost empty and then a little while later goes back to normal. They replaced the def tank already and today I got a service def system see dealer message.

I had a '21 3500 with zero engine issues. Traded it with 63K miles

Although I have extremely low KMs on my 25 5500, first job was a tough one. 16000# on a gooseneck on a logging road with some short serious grades and 6” of fresh snow. Transmission delivered the power smoothly which made traction very manageable. Exhaust brake easily overpowered the load. Coming out empty… well that’s just a dually doing dually things.

What issues specifically make you gunshy?
While not common, a lot of the CGI engines have had issues with camshaft and valve train components. A recent oil analysis shows that my motor has very high levels of iron and aluminum; indicating abnormal wear issues for an engine with only 28K miles. While those metals are not necessarily indicating a valve train issue, something is going wrong. And I am certainly not the only one. I have meticulously maintained it including regular oil changes at 6K. Since I am considering updating to a 2026 I am certainly concerned that the revised motor in the 2025 and newer might carry over some of those problems. So far I am not seeing it.

Seems like a contradictory statement. Seems like the very few issues I've read about with cam/valve issues is caused by using the wrong type/viscosity oils.

And yet the feedback in this thread alone says there are problems with the 25+ trucks.

Hey, I get that you want a new truck. I just don't agree there is any kind of big problem with the CGI motors. DPF issues, sure. But that's pretty common on all newer diesel pickups.

Given these things are computers on wheels, I doubt all the software glitches will ever be entirely eliminated. They need a button on the dash that says, "REBOOT TRUCK".

That was the deciding factor me, redesign of the Cummins to address the common issues with intake side and valve train. I’m hopeful that this should take away some of the worry.

That would be awesome, when all else fails, just turn it off and back on again. Works for most things

I know the climate that the vehicle is in makes a big difference, these diesels have a fit once the cold weather arrives. Up here with high levels of salt on the road and salt water being highly conductive, it does take much to get to get +5V or -5V going in the wrong direction.

There are issue with the 2025+ trucks, I don't think the sky is falling however. The 2025 trucks I am seeing in my circle are relatively problem free - meaning maybe a computer glitch that never returned etc...

By Summer people will have most of the updates needed and or parts replaced and we can move on to the flavor of the month issue.

I had the key fob and keyless entry not work at purchase. they replaced RF module and flashed system. been working flawless ever since.

I also had the reverse trailer guidance system not work. Also, system update several months ago and it's been flawless since. Those are only issues ive had. Done two oil analysis in 13 miles also. Iron content significantly lower on this engine than any single oil analysis from my '19.

I wouldn't hesitate to get another '25.

Heard from dealer on mine today, Ram sending another EGT sensor hopefully this one is working and I can finally get back to work

Which valve train issues were addressed?
