2023 Option Help/Opinions

one second to look down...no concern here. what about 2 seconds? no problem again. Three? depending on the road that's probably a stretch if your attention is 100% off the road...not talking about scanning mirrors/gauges/kid screaming in back seat

the issue is when it take 4-5 seconds of the driver's continuous attention fixated on the screen in order to complete a pretty monotonous task...ie temp change by 8-12 degrees...I don't have a 12" but would guess the options are a temp slider on the screen, pushing the appropriate temp button 8-12 times or holding the temp button for it to speed up...the first two aren't ideal
Unless you're changing settings, you can do any standard task in 2 seconds. Actually, the on screen buttons are bigger and easier to hit, and the again, the temp controls, etc are analog buttons so no issue there.

All you do is hit one button on the steeringwheel. And tell the truck what temp to set. Doesent matter if its 1 or 21 degree difference. Just say set temp at 65 or 95, what ever you want it set at. Very simple and never take your eyes off the road.

But if you have to push buttons, just use the one on the side of the screen.simple and easy. And can still watch the road as you press it.

There’s a physical button for that on the 12” too. You just press the mode button until the hvac is off.
Found that out before I decided to get the 2022. While I appreciate the info jimmy, that's not the same. You can also hit the fan speed down button multiple times till it turns off. I get there are multiple ways to turn off the ac, heat, ect.

I want one button to just shut the hvac system "Off" with out going through soft buttons, talking to the truck, pressing multiple buttons, repeatedly pressing one button, or paying a stranger to ride with me to control the radio, heat, ac. I just want a off button. The 12" screen doesn't have this and the 8.4" does. Sorry, didn't think I was being this unclear.

I think it was more your insistence that there was no buttons.
When in reality you want a one push, instant off button, which the 12" doesn't provide other than on the touch screen or voice command. ;)
My fault for assuming people would understand what I meant.

For me, it doesn’t matter because I never physically mess with the hvac controls. I just say “hey Ram, set temp to…”, or “hey ram, turn off climate control”.
But then again, if I where to physically interface with the screen or physical controls, I could probably wait till I got to a stop sign or light.
Or…since the comma.ai I have installed is usually driving the truck for me, I can mess around with physical controls with my eyes off the road for a little longer than a glance.
I’ve been watching and haven’t seen Ram listed under compatibility for comma.ai. Did you pick one of the kits for a different model?

As far as the car harness kit, they now have one listed under accessories for the 1500, which will work on the HDs.
HDs aren’t officially supported yet, so I’m running a custom branch on mine.
