2022 Ram Tow/Trailer Camera Options

Let me check the part number on the NIB kit I have at home tonight.
Sounds good.

I know the older kit basically gets rid of the repeater and has a different camera part number.

I am guessing I'd need the newer camera and run a new cable that doesn't use the repeater.

I have a couple of questions I didn't see directly addressed in this thread that I could use your help with. I have a 2022 Ram that did not come with the 360 surround cameras but I would like to add the Trailer Aux 1 and Aux 2 camera kit. I have the trailer kit with the single camera and bought the 12 pin connector assembly for the back of the truck. My first question is do I need the CVPM for the 360 kit to make it work and does anyone know the harness part numbers and wiring diagram?
Does anybody know if 82216510AA is the correct part number for the truck side prep for the Trailer Aux camera kit?

I hope I’m not repeating what’s already been posted… (I’ve read thru so many threads seeking the answer, but haven’t found what I need to know…. Hope someone can help me)…

…I have a 2024 Ram 2500 Limited 6.7 CTD and it has the 12 pin…but I DON”T want the 360 view… I want a Tow-camera for my DRVM.
My selling dealer shipped the 86886112AA it to me…and I installed it…. ONLY to find that the Coax “Dock” on the bumper is NOT connected to anything!

The selling dealer is at a loss…and so is my local dealer (who probably feels they shouldn’t have to deal with this. Short-story: Wrecked my Ram in KY and had to buy another to get the travel-trailer back home. Salesman didn’t know what he didn’t know and told me they’d ship the camera to me to fit that coax-dock for the tow-camera.)

I THINK what we need is some sort of “jumper harness” which connects my Coax-Dock to the DRVM harness…??

(I’ve tried to PM Jimmy07 but haven’t rec’d response yet.)

Hope someone knows the answer to this. Thank you.

I have a 2022 Ram 3500 that I added the DRVM and Tow Mode cam. On the 2022 this is a stand alone system where the CHMSL camera and Trailer camera both wire to the Digital rearview mirror (2 Fakra connectors). I believe on the 2023-24 both cameras route through a Video Processing Module under the driver's seat. The cameras are a different format and can't plug directly into the DRVM. The harness I have that runs from the rear bumper to the back of the cab is 68527158AA. Then a small jumper connects and runs through a body plug at the driver's rear corner of the cab. From there you would need the harness and VPM to connect to the DRVM.

I'm going to be installing the 360 cameras on the trailer I tow with my 2022 and I plan to leave out the front camera in the next few days. I'll let you know how it works.
Did you do the install or have someone else install? I recently bought the 360 kit and sent it to the RV dealer to install. They couldn't install because the cables weren't long enough. So they said. I contacted the seller and he sent cable extensions. I picked up the trailer before the extensions arrived. So the trailer/camera kit are in Idaho and I'm in California. I know the cameras work but this whole cables not long enough and install issue is frustrating me. I looked for some videos covering install but couldn't find any. Can you tell me how everything went for you?

The ANSWER to the problem I had posted earlier regarding no harness attached to the truck-side of the “dock” for the DVRM mirror/trailer camera…is SOLVED. Despite a Ram dealer “tech” looking for it and not finding it…another participant here (Damonb) convinced me to Drop the spare tire and search for myself….and …VOILA!
HIDDEN above and behind another twisted harness I found an unoccupied FARKA connector. I used spray contact cleaner to insure cleanliness and plugged it into the back of the bumper “dock”…. and the trailer camera immediately WORKS!

THANK YOU Damon!

Below is the schematic of trailer tow and trailer surround view camera. You can see that 10 wires will populate the 12-way trailer connector. Positions 1 & 6 is power and ground for the trailer CVPM, and/or Aux cameras 1 & 2. Positions 2 & 3 is CANbus IHS HI and LO for the trailer CVPM. Positions 8, 9, & 10 are for Aux camera 1. Positions 7, 11, & 12 are for Aux camera 2, OR video output from the trailer CVPM.

Here’s the schematic for the digital rear view mirror with tow mode camera. If you were to order a truck that only has the digital rear view mirror, and no tow mode camera, I’m not sure if the wiring for the tow mode camera will be on the truck, and if so, how many sections would be populated. If I had to guess, the headliner sections would be populated, but not the section that includes the bumper connector.

@Jimmy07

Can you please repost these schematics? I didn't capture them before they went MIA.

Wow, that was quite the read! Thank you all for some great info! I just got done reading the entire thread and I'm hoping someone might have a magic solution that I haven't seen anywhere else.

I recently purchased a 2022 3500 Limited with all the surround view camera options plus DRVM and the larger UConnect screen and all the appropriate hook up options. The truck did not come with the camera kit so I purchased part #68586112AA that comes with the repeater and 2 sections of the coax cable. I hooked it up and the DRVM showed no connection to the trailer camera. After some furious googling and a PhD from YouTube University I found a video where someone with the same model truck traced the wire along the entire truck and found a broken connection behind the rear seat. So I did the same and began tracing the wire from the bumper forward. Lo and behold my cable was disconnected and broken in the exact same spot! Being a coax/Fakra connection I put it back together and secured with a healthy dose of electrical tape.

Tested again and no luck. Then another round of internetting and I discovered I likely ordered the wrong part. So I found and ordered part #68527599AA. Plugged that system in and still no luck. I had also ordered a dual female Fakra cable to test directly to the mirror. Now here is where it gets really weird. I plugged each camera directly into the trailer connector going into the DRVM. Still nothing.

Thinking the mirror itself might be bad, I plugged the CHMSL camera line into the trailer line at the DRVM. The mirror immediately recognized the CHMSL as the trailer camera and displayed the appropriate picture for the CHMSL position.

I am now at a total loss for other things to check. I dropped the truck off with the dealer with all my notes about tests. They have opened a Star case but who knows how long that will take.

If anyone has any ideas for a newbie to the forum I'd greatly appreciate it!

This is odd. Can you verify the mirror part#? On the backside it should be embossed. There are alot of different versions even in the dual version. This will help us help you in determining if the two cameras you have are correct. Also check the cameras themselves for any part numbers, thinking these two kits use the same camera.

I will do that as soon as I get the truck back early next week. Thanks!

Just heard back from the tech and the Stellantis engineers said my truck build code didn’t support either of the camera part numbers I bought. They gave me a part number of 82216068AA to accomplish what I’m trying to do. Only problem is that code has been superseded by 82216068AB which is the dual camera kit that uses the other bumper port going to the UConnect system. Seems like with the wiring in place, the DVRM, the 360 surround view options and tow package this should be fairly straight ahead. Am I missing something?
