2022 Aisin Failure Tracking Sheet

**edit** dealer is ordering a new seal. They cleaned everything up hoping the other area was just residual. Almost wanted to argue with me about the rear seal leaking like you didn't drop the drives haft and tcase to remove the transmission. No matter what how are you going to let a truck with 2500 miles leave with any fluid underneath is baffling to me. Our 14 year old 242,000 mile camry is cleaner underneath.

Hopefully that means it's a good one. Time will tell there.

Rear tcase output seal is definitely leaking and it looks like the input seal is the other spot. Fluid is getting on the exhaust so I get a nice burnt Fluid smell when I get out. I'll be heading back to the dealer here in a bit. Unbelievable.
I am at a loss for words on how disappointed I am with these $90K - 100K shiny pieces of crap. I consider the purchase of my 22 3500 Laramie to be the worst financial decision ever. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. I'm sorry we're all having to deal with this.

It's all good. It's just a shame that it's tarnishing all of our ownership it so much. The most disappointing thing so far for me is the canceled camping trips and the ones I haven't booked because they're too remote and don't have the confidence in this truck. I know things can always happen but I've always had confidence in the truck I was driving. This one needs to earn it.

I am beginning to feel this way also. Luckily my Aisin hasn’t failed (yet) but I’d be lying if i said I fully trust it. This 22 has been the worst truck I have ever owned in terms of initial quality. 13 trips to the dealer in 16 months of owners ship, all for quality / warranty issues. I’ve put closed to 400 miles on my truck just shuttling it to and from the dealer for warranty work for stuff that just simply shouldn’t be. My 2017 went back to the dealer twice in the almost five years i owned it and it was half the price of this new one. 95E0C0CF-EDA9-4A52-8A98-559320A47A70.png

@mbarber84 I bought my first new Ram in 1999, since then I've had an 04.5, 12, and 15. All of them had a little something go wrong, but that was after thousands of miles and minor things like a power steering pump or wheel bearing. The 2022 is nothing but problems or high potential problems since the day I ordered it. The worst part is that Ram/Stellantis doesn't seem to care at all. They really like to take our money, but they give us very little value in return. I don't want to hijack your thread any further so I'll leave it at that. And thanks again for all of your hard work on this.

Man, mine just failed…..I have never seen anything like it, it was running great, i stopped at a toll booth, and then it would not take off. I put it in reverse and then drive and was able to move in 5th gear. Limped it back home to the dealership.

Im very sorry to hear that. I can add your truck to the tracking spreadsheet if you`re interested. If there's any info I can provide for you please let me know.

Thanks….disappointed for sure. Sure, what information do you need?

The order date was in March 2022, I picked it up on October 3rd. I was not towing. Failed at 10,600. 1-4 does not work. Reverse does.

I have no doubt. Hopefully your dealer will get you fixed up as it seems parts are starting to become more available.
For the truck sheet, here`s what I need:

Confirm it is a 2022 or 2023 truck with the aisin AS69RC or AS66RC transmission?
Or it is a 2019 thru 2021 model year which received a replacement new transmission (see transmission types) in 2022

1. Date you ordered the truck (if applicable)
2. Date of manufacture (See sticker on driver door for "date of manufacture (Build date))
3. Date you purchased the truck
4. Mileage on odometer at the time of failure
5. Serial Number of failed transmission (see blue stamped metal tag on side of the transmission. It will be something like "2H-2345"
6. Serial Number of replacement transmission (if applicable)
7. Were you towing at the time of failure?
8. Did 1st through 4th gear work?
9. Did reverse work?
10. What date did the transmission fail?
11. When was the truck returned to you after repair?
12. Did your dealer replace the transmission with a new unit or was the failed transmission repaired with parts?

IF you do not have some of the above data, that`s fine. I can update your information on the sheet as you get the info to me. Obviously some of the info will not be applicable until the truck is repaired, so please keep me updated as you go through the process. I have accumulated a fair amount of info and data regarding this issue, if I can help you in any way please let me know. Also, you need to be aware that this will likely result in a lengthy return time to you (30+ days is almost a guarantee) at this point. IF your dealer has not handled any of these failures yet, they need to look up TSB 21-002-23 and review all of the information contained within. Let me know if I can help you out further. Thank you for being willing to participate in the sheet, it has helped quite a few people already.

Okay, you are on the sheet. See line #144. Please make sure the data I have for you is correct when you have a chance. Let me know if any updates or corrections need to be made.
Also, if you are able to, I would appreciate it if you can get the transmission serial number the next time you are near the truck. Or if the dealer would do that for you, I would appreciate it.
If not, not a big deal. Let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for the info!

Hello All! As many of you I found this through googling and want to learn more about what happened, more so cause I'm generally curious, then any dealer issues. So far this has been my only issue other than my old soul fighting technology in the truck. I was in the airport making laps to pick up my buddies for my bachelor party when the snap ring failed. Dealer has been very upfront and open. as noted below in the sheet info, on 3/13/23 I was 13th in line for the "transmission" and they are hoping to it back to me by the end of the month.

Here is my info for the sheet;
2022 3500 HO. Don't know which Aisin it is.
1. August 5th 2022
2. October 27th 2022 (This is what i have through my owner portal, truck is at the dealer currently)
3. November 30th 2022
4. 6,742 miles
5. Unknown at this time. I will get info once back from dealer
6. Unknown not repaired yet.
7. No, never towed.
8. Not that I'm aware of. I was able to get to a safe location from initial point of failure.
9. It did, dealer said it reversed poorly.
10. February 23rd 2023.
11. Has not been repaired yet. As of 3/13/23 I was 13th in line for the 'remanufactured/rebuilt' transmission.
12. Not sure yet, being told it will be repaired and rebuilt.

I was looking at my repair order and noticed the tech that worked on our truck didn't even mention the TSB, even though it has all the codes and symptoms. Like I suspected from the beginning they didn't know about it and the writer didn't care what I had to say. It actually says that he thought it was the valvebody based on diag flow chart. (No mention of engineering like they told me) When it didn't fix it, it says he suspects an internal failure. Duh. This lack of knowledge on the techs part, cost 4 weeks in the truck sitting there before they decided to order a transmission. He also noted no metal or clutch material in pan.

Still shocked we got one when we did. Have almost 100 miles on the new unit.

Its hard to fault the dealer in some situations because it doesn't seem they all receive the same level of information. I have had to help some of the folks with this issue by sending them the TSB to hand to their dealer. This issue is going to continue for months. If the tech was following the information he or she had available at the time, that's all they can do. Although they should have reached out for STAR assistance. If your truck was the first one of these they had to deal with, its likely they just didn't understand what they were looking at. In any case, I am glad you got the truck back but I will say this: Based on all the data I`m looking at, I have serious reservations about the integrity of the transmissions installed in the trucks prior to the TSB coming out. I`ve already updated three as reoccurring failures recently.

My update, service manager on Houston Tx recommended calling customer care. I did, transmission will rebuilt to spec as they can't get enough tranny's. Dealership had 10 rams, same issue 2 weeks ago. Likely more now. Parts scheduled to arrive April 19. Considering application of lemon law. Very very unhappy with the process.

Just an info post / inquiry
Have most of these snap ring failures been low mile failures ?
My 22 HO drw
Has 28k on it now
Just changed fluid first time
Built march 22
Picked up end of may 22
Used for hotshot , so almost all of the 28 k has been towing

Thanks peeps

There was one added from the cummins forum with 20k. That was the highest mileage I've seen so far.

Thanx for the info sir
I am just trying to make an educated guess , if I’m in the clear or not
Since there doesn’t seem to be any definitive window of builds being affected ‍♂️

The tracking sheet is up and running. Please share. If you are on the list, please make sure your data is correct. If not, I can update. Also, if someone is not on there and would like to contribute I can add. Public has viewing and commenting rights only. Thanks!

I believe around 70-75% of the ones I’ve been documenting have failed at or below 5,000 miles. After 5k the rest seem to fail in between 5 and 10. Above 10k, failures are far more rare but not impossible. If your truck was built in March, then I would guess it could be susceptible to the snap ring failure but I can’t say for sure (and I’m not sure ram can either. There’s been some information posted in other groups that supposedly they can, but I’m hearing mixed reports on that).

What I do know for sure, is that the failures always happen at lower speed, when the truck is operating on the K1 drum (so gears 1-4).

I would be happy to.
I’ll get your information on there.
If you get a chance, can you please get the transmission serial number off of your transmission case? It’ll be a blue metal stamped tag with a serial number like 2H-1234
