Been to dealership 3 times and the last time the mechanic said to keep driving until noise got worse. It gets quieter when the engine warms up. Looks like it can't be diagnosed until it breaks down. Has anyone else had this problem? Been out of work for 3 weeks due to truck being at dealership.

Sounds like a clutch dragging, maybe the AC clutch? Try turning on AC and see if it goes away?

It's amazing how useless the dealerships are when internet folks can do much better job diagnosing the problem over the internet.

So it’s tough to diagnose over the internet but ANY mechanic, hell even the oil change kid with a mechanic stethoscope should be able to isolate the problem in less than 5 min. Are there any other dealerships around you?

I've got it at another mechanic, he's the one that replaced the AC compressor, said he would have it ready in a couple of days but still hasn't told me what is wrong. Can't wait for another month for a dealership to tell me they can't find anything. I tried a stethoscope and couldn't locate the noise.

I'd have taken the belt when truck is cold and start it for 10 seconds and see if the noise is gone, sounds like its on the accessory drive.

That sounds like a dry bearing in a belt tensioner. My '14 Silverado had the exact same issue about 2K miles into it's life.
Just an odd one off dry bearing that made it through the assembly process. Dealer changed it on warranty and never had an issue again.

I've been to the dealership 3 times and they told me that the tensioner was bad the first time, second they just left my truck sitting in their lot, third I went there started the truck and went inside to get the mechanic, he listened and told me it could be many things, that I should continue to drive the truck until it gets worse. Had to go to an outside mechanic and he replaced the AC compressor, took it back to him, the truck is still there. This has been going on since February 14. My truck is my sole source of income and I'll probably lose my business because no one has the time to fix it.
I've replaced the fan clutch a couple of months ago when it went bad, so it's fairly new, I've replaced the AC compressor, I've replaced the belt tensioner and belt, no change whatsoever.

Water pump or alternator then would be next likely suspects. Does the speed of the sound increase with engine speed?

In that case just run it till it fails and the dealer can fix everything that fails in the process

No we checked that, stays about the same. It goes from the loud rattling in the video when it's cold to chirping sound when it warms up.

I'm in the hotshot business and I go all over the place, I can't afford to break down somewhere on a 2 lane road without phone service. Then the expense of a wrecker and getting my load delivered, if I'm loaded, lot's of factors to consider when taking the truck out knowing that there may be a serious problem.

Any chance of lemon law?

I've got 106000 miles and the chance of winning in court are slim and none, just got to hope they find out what's wrong before I go broke.

Go trade it off on a new truck, buy a cheap truck to get by or figure out how to fix it yourself.... that's about the only good options vs letting it be a landmark in some ones lot.

They replaced the compressor but did they transfer the old clutch onto the new one? Or did the new one come with a clutch? Does the noise go away with the A/C on and have you verified it clicks in? Something as simple as a loose drive hub nut? If you've verified it goes away with the belt off it can't be that hard to track down what it is.
