2019 Truck cap/topper/camper shell thread

This is a Lear brand bed cap. I recycled it from my 2015 Ram 2500. It fit the 2019 perfectly. Got it painted to match the rest of the truck. I mounted a 12 volt DC fan in the side window for the dog during camping trips so he now has the best seat in the truck.

I am a member of the topper club now.
ARE V-series, slidey side windoors, tilt down front window, roof rail tracks.
Will need to add rear window defrost, interior lighting (didnt order it with any because didn’t like any of the options), and storage solutions.

Got this Leer used off of CL this weekend. It's only a year old and was the right color.
Score!!! I’ve been waiting 7 weeks so far for a front window so I can get mine painted to match. I wish I was lucky enough to catch one the right color

Yeah I was stoked to find it. It wasn't cheap but I didn't have to wait the long lead time and i'm sure I paid less than new price + tax so in the end I feel I came out ahead.

I got word my front slider/tip out glass will ship this week. I’ve been waiting since first of September for it to ship from the company. Next step once it gets here is to have the topper painted. Can’t wait.

Question: On the ARE shells with roof rails, are the bolts and nuts exposed on the underside if you there is a carpeted headliner? And if you have a picture, I would apprecitate it. Thank you in advance.

Question 2: ARE dealer will not let me back into shop to watch install ("insurance regulations"). Is this a red flag or show stopper?

NO that's pretty normal for most business shops. I've bought several brands of shells over the years and wasn't in the shop when any of them were installed.

Yes, they are exposed.
I don't have any close-ups, but have this one from last year when I added my fishing rod holders that shows the two rows of them along the top. I used a few of the bolts to mount the aluminum studs I used for the rod holders.

The shop I went to had no problems with me being in the shop. They let me drive the truck in, watch the progress, then back the truck back out. This was in the height of the pandemic, so while that could have something to do with it, the other major topper dealer in the Denver area where I bought my Snugtop for my 4th gen let me do the same years ago. Unfortunately, it's their shop and their rules.

Do remember What was the thread pitch? 1/4-20? Would like to add some eye-nuts to mine to hang a net up for lightweight things, but havent had a chance to actually do it.

@Randrx2 they are exposed but the “nut” is in a little plastic acorn capsule thing so the bolt doesn’t protrude too far becoming a head-hazard.

My memory is shot so I couldn't remember, but luckily a quick trip to the garage confirmed that the nuts I used were indeed 1/4-20

That’s a pretty cool idea, I’d like to see pics of how it works out

I wish I could take credit as inventor, but I’ve seen it a couple times on Tacoma World and other corners of the web.

Intent would be for light weight + soft items such as a sleeping pad, pillow, towels etc to keep them high & dry/clean, but easy to access
