2019 - 2022 rear LED tail-lights without blindspot sensor.

Received assembly today, removed and replaced sensor with my cracked tail lamp assembly sensor. Worked out real nice, everything seems to work on the test drive. A couple of tips if anyone else deals with the same issue.

First, the pins with inserts need to be replaced. Trying to slip in the assembly into the horseshoe shape plastic mold for the inserts can break, see picture of broken insert.

Prepped for new assembly.

I tried to unplug the plug with the locks opened and couldn’t get it to budge. So I removed the two screws that hold the sensor to the aluminum casting, and found out that you need to remove the sensor to unplug it. In the picture you can see the aluminum tab blocking the removal of the plug.

Two screws mentioned earlier that holds the sensor to the cast aluminum.

No, but if you look up the part numbers posted, on Mopar parts, it’ll break it down. Mine came with the new assembly.

@RVTRKN , I just busted my passenger side tail light this morning, so your posts are timely for me. Do you happen to have the part number for the non BSS housing you picked up and does it look like this on the front:

index.php

Mine does have a BSS and all of the parts places online are showing $440 for the entire assembly which appears to include a new sensor and heat sink. If I can' buy the non BSS housing for cheaper and move my stuff over, I'd prefer to do that. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Oh, and a dumb question. How can you tell if you have normal or LED tail lights? The back of my housing looks identical to the second image @Jimmy07 posted in his first reply to this thread. The only parts numbers I've found on my housing are 68446840AE and 300666 BSS and nothing so far tells me if that is LED or not.

What trim level and MY is your truck? You should fill out your signature so it’s already posted and easier for these kind of questions.
The style you have are LED which may or may not have BSS. My truck is a 2019 which apparently is a one year part number for MY, which have a slightly different BSS per part number. The sticker/tag on the inside should give you the correct part number which you posted. Here is a link, but don’t wait too long. https://www.ebay.com/itm/3255419827...rcj9zom59Cv20xpE2W9OT4OuomiB|tkp:BFBM9pTdnc5h

With mine the 2019s are real expensive due to a one year part. So I purchased a 2020+ LED assembly and swapped the sensor, so the sensors matched, per @Jimmy07. I thought about the assembly W/O the BSS but the wiring was too much of a question to convert, for $349 for the assembly it was worth it. Now if I was stuck with the $900+ per Mopar or the $1200 the dealer quoted, I might have gambled the non sensor part and converted.

You can send me a PM with your contact info and I’ll call you to talk about my process, or your options.

Thanks for the reply. I did see that one on eBay but thought I'd see if the non BSS conversion was cheaper. Like you, I decided it would just be way easier and I order the eBay one this morning.

Don’t mean to highjack but This is a perfect reason why I have zero interest in all this extra tech in a vehicle, $1000+ tails should be for Audi R8, not everyday trucks. Ill

Well, you DID mean to hijack. Otherwise you wouldn’t have bothered posting in a thread of which the subject doesn’t matter to you.

That’s the same vender on eBay I purchased from, and it came as new as advertised. If you’re unsure of the sensor not being the correct sensor, just swap out the sensor to match the pair like I did.

You’re wrong x2.

Well You have a valid point, and yes they are expensive. The taillight didn’t fail from wearing out, it was my own stupidity. As far as a $1000 for one, only the 2019’s are that expensive if you want to pay the “rich man I don’t care how much it is” cost, then your a fool for not researching the cost and options. As far as Bighorns are concerned, they can also have the LED lights with the BSS. I would still buy the same truck again if I needed to.

Also, I imagine most guys on here don't consider these "every day trucks"!!! An "everyday truck" can't do what mine does!

When i finally take delivery of my Big Horn/LoneStar it will have led tail lights but not the BSM

The LEDS look really nice, especially the front head lights, they are so much brighter and when turning they illuminate more when turning. ShowKiller1, do you know if the Longhorn LED version has the turning lights included in the LED package?

Longhorn and Limited have the adaptive LED lights, they do turn with the steering wheel, yes.

@Etoimos, did you get and install the assembly?

I did get it and it was in perfect shape, but I have not installed it yet. When I went to in stall it I also washed the truck since it was covered in road grime from several snow storms. When it was all clean I found some body damage that I had not seen before. So now I need to get a quote for getting everything fixed and see where that puts me with my deductible and insurance. I may just have them fix everything and then resell this tail light.

Ya, I imagine it comes down to the deductible cost. I thought of the same thing, I have a little ding on my rear drivers side door, and with a $500 deductible it would pay for itself, if I just filed a claim and included it with the door repair, but at $350, I just fixed it myself.

Hey Jimmy and All,

I have been reading and digesting your postings regarding to install my 2019 RAM 2500 BigHorn Diesel BSM. I have everything purchased you've pointed out there. But I just realize that I'm not able to finger out how to remove the housing connectors to add pins. I bought Mopar 68361716AD and 68361717AD and cut the radar detector holes. But I'm struggling to push their pins to remove the connectors with no luck... I'm stuck here. Would you please direct me how to resolve my issues. For details see attached pics.
What type of tools I need to push the plastic lockers/pins inside the lamp cabinets to release the two housing connector. See pics attached for details.

Best,
Mark
