Will the mileage get better or is this what I should expect?

I got 21 MPG according to the evic on my 180 mile trip on Monday. Really easy driving though. Never above 64 and stayed 55 in the 55 zones. Most definitely pissed off the drivers between Valley Forge and Philly whizzing by me at 75+.

On my return trip Friday and will use the evic and hand calculate as well. I will top off the tank one click when I leave and one click when I arrive to try and get the most honest calculation.

250ish miles each way, 12.4 on the way up to the cabin with a light headwind not towing and 12.8 on the way back with a moderate tailwind towing my PWC. It's almost exactly a 50/50 mix of cruise set at 85 on the interstate and 70 on the US/State highways with a few short through town interludes.

85 while towing? Are your trailer tires even rated for 85? Brave.

Tons of moms on this board, be careful!

Word of advice, don't make any changes to your sway bars or suspension -- your rig will immediately become "illegal".
HAHAHA... I see what you did there, Tell him there are tons on Mom's and then give him advice like a Mom. That is funny.

Back to our regularly scheduled program. I told you all I would monitor the last trip and compare the computer's MPG calculation to hand calculation. Interesting results.

Topped off the tank prior to departure.
188.5 miles
3:31 hours
55 mph in 55 zones, 64 mph is 65 and 70 zones. Three times I accelerated to pass someone going slower than me if you can believe that. I had about 15 mins of bumper to bumper in Harrisburg during rush hour which brought me below 20 mpg according to the computer.
Computer says 19.6 mpg
Hand calculate - 10.041 gallons at 188.5 miles = 18.77 mpg
Almost 1 mpg off.

I think gimmie11s was being intentionally ironic…

Interesting on the mileage calculations. I don’t know how the computer calculates. When I saw 20.8 on the evic after filling up and driving 15 miles or so on cruise at 55 or 56, I felt like it was way to early to assume I was actually getting 20.8 mpg. If I started towing it would have dropped to 10 something 1 but it won’t average them for 15….so double checking the evic makes sense but I don’t do it every time.

8.2mpg hand calculated over 1100 miles towing from Marathon, FL to North Alabama. All interstate, 65mph, towing thru several tstorms, Atlanta traffic/stoppages and crazy congested gas stations. I'll take it. Towing 2022 a Rockwood 2911.

I have a 2021 Laramie 2500 CC 6.7. Empty and on the highway at 75, I get right at 20 MPG. Empty around town is low teens. Towing my 7600 lbs travel trailer at 65-68 yields me about 11.5 MPG.

Been about 3 weeks, this is where we're at so far. Honestly better than expected especially since 1192 miles of towing out of the just under 2000 towing. 20220723_124316.jpg

I just filled up for the 2nd time. I have 660 miles on the vehicle and the computer says the average MPG is 13.3.

I have been babying the truck during the break in period, avoiding interstate travel and taking the surface streets as much as possible. The few times I was on the interstate I used the adaptive cruise and set it at 55 or 65 depending on the zone. I really do like how the vehicle adjusts based on the vehicle in front of me. I just rode in the right lane and watched nearly everyone pass me except the heavy 18 wheelers and blue haired old ladies.

So is this it? 13 MPG? I hear others saying their mileage is higher. Are they exaggerating or are better MPG's in my future?

Of note... There is another thread about tire over inflation. My came from the factory at 80 psi. They are still at factory PSI. The door sticker says 65 psi. Could that be affecting my mileage?

Sorry... Truck particulars
2022 Ram 2500 Laramie MegaCab 4x4
6.4 Gas engine, 8 speed transmission, 3.73 gears
18" wheels

Thanks!

I got my 2022 Tradesman last September and my in town mpg is about 10 which I think is a bit low. I haven’t got 5000 miles on it yet, but hoping for a little improvement.

if it makes you feel any better my 22 3500 dually is getting 8.7 mpg with a small 5th wheel hooked up. that's hand calculated. I get 600 or just over with 50 gallon tank unloaded. I have the ho 6.7 cummings. my trailer is older but not big either 26.5 is my model number so like 31 ft overall. these things are tow beasts but mileage sucks. I have about 6k miles now. half of it is towing and ac run ing as I live in a hot climate. on the 40 just inside Texas and on my 6th tank of fuel coming from Virginia headed to southern California

I know we really shouldn’t expect much out of these trucks, I’ve just heard that mileage can improve as more miles are put on.
Wondering if anyone has experienced that.

My Hemi seemed to get a bump up in fuel economy when it ticked over 15k. It was definitive and has stayed around.
