Valvoline vs Rotella vs Amsoil

I realize the oil topic has been exhausted many times on this forum and others.

But I’m wanting to get an opinion more on the brand and not the weight.

I live in the North West. So weather below zero is never seen here. I’ll be running 10w-30 weight oil.

What brand do you like and why?

My choices currently are

Valvoline Premium Blue synthetic blend-Pro is it’s endorsed by Cummins.

Rotella T5 synthetic blend-I exclusively ran T6 in my 2002 and easy to get.

Amsoil Full Synthetic-It’s very expensive. Probably more for HARDCORE applications.

What’s your go to oil for 10w-30?

Amsoil lives in all my engines. It’s a little more than some oils, but the preferred/dealer pricing isn’t bad.

I don’t think you need their signature series thou. The ADN heavy-duty synthetic is plenty of oil for stock applications.

I’m using Amsoil ADO in my ‘22.

I use Amsoil ADN (10w-30). You are better off to pay for prefer customer if using consistantly.

I've had about as perfect performance out of Rotella as could be expected and the price has always been about as good as any. I bought many drums of it for $9-10 a gallon. I guess those days are over. I can buy it cheaper in jugs now, usually about $14 a gallon now.

Rotella used to be my go to but being able to find it in stores and price has brought me back to amsoil its actually cheaper than the shell at this point!

Shell does actually make a Rotella T6 full synthetic 10W-30 but you're right, it's not T5.T5 is a blend.

I get that. Just pointing out that T6 is also now available in 10W-30.

The truck is a 2022 6.7 3500 SO.

Intended usages driving, towing 10-17k, mostly country and highway.

The pricing I referenced was conventional of course, nobody's buying Amsoil for that price. I should have mentioned that most of my bargain Rotella experience was on Duramax trucks which are very easy on oil.

I ran the 10W30 conv Rotella for my first oil change on my '22 Ram CTD but have switched over to 5W40 synthetic now. I don't remember what I paid for it, really trying to forget honestly. And yeah, it hasn't been growing on trees lately.

I don’t believe there are any conventional 5w-40’s.

Yea, I thought I found it online but it was the 5w-30.

Shell is such a tease.

When i buy my shell oil its hard to find gallon jugs so i buy a 5gal pail it used to be 133$ on sale now it never goes on sale and its 195$ i can buy 12qt of amsoil 5w40 shipped to my door for 145$

I pulled up the data sheet. It’s approved for API CK-4, CES 20081, and MS 10902. This is the only oil where I’ve seen it published where all 3 standards are met.

All 3 grades listed meet all 3 specs, as do all grades of the signature series (even thou the data sheet doesn’t show MS-10902 for the 10w-30 it has meet the standard)

Interesting. I read the material sheets and only saw it on the AMSOIL. Might have missed it.
