hi

can anyone tell me if this will work without any modifications. another member had bought a new limited and it came with the trailer surround view 360 kit. he didn't want it and I bought it off him. I have a new laramie 3500 drw and have the tow tech b package and have the vehicle surround veiw camera. I have the option on the screen for the trailer surround view but it's grayed out. pretty sure I have the 12 pin on bumper. if I plug the camera kit into thw bumper will it un grey the selection box or will I have to enable it at the dealer? not sure if the sales code can be added after the build. someone may have the answer for me. this is a 2022 truck assume his was as well. should have asked the question before I bought them. I do have the tow mode camera. trailer reverse guidance as well. pics show the grayed out trailer surround and when I hit the trailer surround view camera that dialog box opens telling me to plug in the trailer. hopefully I just need the cameras to make it work.

anyone wondering this. it works just can only use one plug either the in bed or bumper depending on trailer your using. my truck was wired for the bed. there is an extension cable in the kit to use if your doing a bumper pull boat trailer car trailer etc. you would have to unplug the bed connector and remove the bumper connector cap off and reinstall on the bed connector and use the included harness extender.

The 12-pin pugs have been that way since they offered the in-bed plug with the 5th wheel prep starting in 2020. If you have a fifth wheel prep, the bed connector is hot. and the bumper is capped.

Not sure why there would be any extra harness as all you have to do is crawl under the truck and swap the connection. There are multiple cables for the Camera side...

Unless it's a Y-cable they now supply. If so, please post the part number.

not a y cable it's a single cable that has the 2 plugs I figured it was a adapter cable. I'll post pics later when I get home from taking the family to sushi. the cable has a part number which I will share in a bit.

That's the 12-pin connecter behind the bumper where the camera cable comes from the front of the truck and plugs into either the bumper 12-pin or bed 12-pin.

No idea why they would have included that. Almost seems like maybe a part from the XFQ truck wiring parts kit or from a Chassis Cab?

maybe I will see if I can find someone to make a y for others interested so both plugs can be used without swapping. I jave a cable with the ends already on to show someone. if I had access to thw connectors I could build one. I'm a AT in rhe US Navy and jave a universal technical trade school diploma along with prior dodge ram Chrysler jeep mechanic experience before joining the navy. so if I cam figure it out I'll let everyone know.

Mfr and series are on the connectors. I think they're Molex MX-150 series (available at Mouser) but there's another Mfr that @Jimmy07 has mentioned that they could also be. I think the concern with using a Y is picking up noise on the video signal with the open end wiring possibly acting like an antenna.

I was thinking I read in other threads that even if you ordered the fifth wheel prep package they only put the camera connection in the bumper - not in the bed - is that not the case?

I have the Towing Tech B, fifth wheel prep and 12 in screen packages ordered. Does this mean the truck will be prepped and wired so I would be able to add the trailer surround camera / modular later on and it would all be set up to use? Sounds like that’s the case from the responses, was just confirming.

This essentially means the trailer surround option is really just a product for the camper, correct? It doesn’t add anything to the truck.

Thanks

The digital tow mode connector is only in the bumper (on properly equipped trucks).

The 12-pin Surround/AUX2 is in both locations (on properly equipped trucks).

Not sure on your package but the trailer surround add-on requires the truck to have surround. If selected in the build page, it will force a package that includes truck surround if not already present.

tow tech b gives you vehicle surround view so u will be good just to plug and play the kit if u find one. dealer can't order. is only sold with the truck builds currently. and since the truck has vehicle surround view it gives you trailer surround view option just grayed out until the trialer that has the module/brain installed is hooked to truck if that makes sense to u. look at my screen pics and you will understand.

Thanks everyone.

I do have the 360 surround view as part of the Towing Tech B package and the digital rear view mirror as part of the Safety Group package, I just didn’t get the cameras. Goof to know the prep work on the truck is already taken care of if / when I go to add the cameras. I am planning on getting a new fifth wheel in a year or two and didn’t really want to add the cameras to the current fifth wheel knowing I would be getting a new one relatively soon.

Thanks again.

I just did a checkout, no trailer attached, with the system in the garage and it worked with the bed connection, not on the bumper connection. This is a 2022 3500 Laramie with the 5th wheel/gooseneck prep.
