Third shock?

So I was crawling around under the truck and noticed there is a Bilstein shock mounted between a frame cross-member and the top of the rear differential... is this a common thing?

It's a "Kicker Shock"... designed to prevent the rear diff rotating forward or back when under a heavy load.

Yes, even my '15 has a Bilstein "pinion snubber".
