Not a whole lot of options for 5th gen out there. Pretty much every company says they can’t guarantee a rack from 4th gen will fit but only because they have not tried or even measured.

So will a 4th gen roof rack for the crew cab fit? Are the cab styles the same size? What about 2021 1500 roof racks on the 3500? What options are you guys using? I want low profile like Prinsu, KCHighlights, or ExpeditionOne

I would think a 4th gen 2500/3500 would fit a 4.5 gen 2500/3500 as they are the same cab but I can't verify they didn't make any small tweaks that would be a mounting issue?

A 5th gen 1500 is a completely different cab design.

If you're talking about a 5th gen 1500, I can't be of much assistance, but pretty sure their cab is completely different than anything HD as well as the 4th gen 1500s.

But if you're talking about a 4.5 gen HD (2019-2022), then yes, 4th gen should fit. I know I've seen a post here somewhere about someone somewhat recently adding a Prinsu rack Rhino Rack Backbone. I went the Rhino Rack route (Vortex bars and Pioneer Tray) so that I can add and remove when I need to. I've moved that same setup from my 4th gen 1500 to my 4th gen 2500 to my 4.5 gen 2500 with no issues.

Edited - Was actually another Rhino Rack, just using the backbone. The Prinsu was on a topper.

Yeah, that has been a challenge with tons of products since the 2019s rolled out and remains to be an issue still. Some vendors simply haven't updated their listings, then so many are just auto-populated via API from supply houses, so the ripple effect continues.

This was their reply from prinsu. So I think this should work for us also…

Hello,

We have not had a chance to try this ourselves. I know that our 09-18 ram roof rack does work for the 2500 and 3500. However, I am not sure if that will work or not.

Sounds like it will work since the 22 has the same cab as the 18?

Did you end up buying a 1500 Prinsu rack and using it on your truck? What year and model is your truck?

It’s actually in the shop now getting installed. I will post pictures when I have a chance to go grab the truck. I didn’t have the balls to do it myself cause it required a little trim around the shark fin and I wasn’t comfortable drilling through the roof for the wiring harness for the lights.

I stared at it built for two days then bitched out and brought it to my local overland guys. Should have it back soon.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm talking with UpTop Overland about one of their roof racks for my truck. They sell a rack for the 4th gen 1500s and have designed and built a prototype for the 4th gen 2500s, but nothing for the 4.5 gen 2500s. But from what I am learning, there is no difference between those three cabs.

Ok so we have been doing some mocks and I am definitely moving the shark fin back two inches. Was trying to get away without it but it sits too far forward even cutting the bar behind the air scoop. It’s gonna look sick with the light bar but I gotta move the fin. Fack

I will update with my solution this week. I mean who doesn’t like extra holes in their roof? Jesus take the wheel.

Same exact cab. Nobody will sell their 4th gen rack for the 4.5s because of the shark fin. It is in the way no matter what you do. Won’t work with any rack at all let alone the low profile ones. I almost got it to work with the prinsu but light bar won’t work so now I gotta completely relocate it.

When are you going to paint the door inserts like you did the logos to match the wheels?

Edit: And yes, I like spending your money and time. :D

That's some more great info right there. UpTop already makes a solution for the Tacoma shark fin, so maybe they can come up with something for the 4.5 2500s as well.
