Radar detector hard wire

Hello all,

I'm planning on hard wiring a radar detector not sure if anyone has done it on a 2022 yet or not. Got a few options:

1) mirror tap, but the installer warned me that other fca vehicles have an issue where mirror taping cause a circuit to stay energized and the detector drains the battery when engine is off.

2) use an add a fuse circuit to add to the fuse panel. Now I haven't looked around very hard yet under the panel but I don't readily see a fuse panel under the driver side .. then I've been reading other forums that say ram does not have an interior fuse panel? Is that true?

just looking for comments or opinions, or experience from anyone on this.

thanks for the help

2021 here

I powered mine via the Aux ignition on relay and used one of the pass through wires to my detector. Kept the detector inline fuse as the circuit can be used for other devices (20 Amp I think).

I have a few things powered through the aux switches I got with my truck. If you don't have those, then there are a couple of pass through wires as previously mentioned which I also used.

Here is a link to a very good thread I used a lot when I wired mine. I think the link goes to a post I made with a small summary of some of what I did, but if you also go to the beginning and read through the thread you will probably get more information than what you need.

Pulled the 12" radio display and powered off the 12v socket at the top of the dash. My Dash cam is powered from the same location.

Ok thank you everyone for options i will talk with my installer, has any had luck or heard about problems with mirror tap? Seems like it would be so much easier

'21 3500 here, used a mirror tap for my 2016 ED and my '21 2500 as well. Had no issues whatsoever. In stalled in about 15 minutes with wiretaps and a wire about 8 inches long. Shuts off with the vehicle. Black is ground, pink and yellow stripe is 12v. There's multiple threads in the forum and videos on the Tube.

Yes that's what I've researched as well seems very very easy but my installer worried me saying that something on it would cause the mirror circuit to stay on and it would run the battery dead... But I haven't seen any mention of anything like that anywhere... From what I've seen that's the easiest thing to do

Never had a problem with that. Your installer may be looking at this from an overall viewpoint. Mine is strictly Ram (x3) and one Hyundai (the old lady's ride).

Honestly, the most scary thing to me about this is removing the damn plastic cover... I can't find a video of someone doing it. I don't know what to call it, "plastic rear view mirror cover" but I've found plenty of people saying to use a trim removal tool to remove the inner triangular piece behind the mirror first, and then you have to pry the big plastic piece off the windshield... But that first small plastic piece, I don't know where to stick something to help remove it and I'm afraid of breaking the plastic clips...

I've seen someone on another forum post something from the service manual that said "use a trim removal tool to first remove the plastic piece behind the mirror" but it doesn't say where to stick the tool lol ...

I hardwire a nice looking fused switch. Feed it from that , I only use it on the highway. Looking into the bumper front amd rear sensored radars. Then put the alert box down low. Nothing in the windshield this way

I was ready to do that too until I found there is no fuse box inside the cab, all under the hood... So that makes it immensely more complicated imo
