Just got a 2015 2500. Is there a big difference Between the 0w40 recommended oil vs 5w40? I cannot find 0w40 in stores around me so I’d have to buy online. Curious about everyone’s opinion on this. Thank you

You can run 15 -40 regular oil or 5-40 , 10-30 synthetic . 0-40 is not mentioned in the manual from what I have read . I have never seen 0-40 heavy duty oil sold . You should pull some old oil out or if possible ask the previous owner what oil they used and go from there .

Like Nick says above, 5W40 is the recommended weight for cold weather. 15W40 is recommended for above 0 degrees F.

You guys posting above answers are correct for a Diesel, but original poster is looking for information about a Hemi. Personally I only use the 0W40 called for in the owners manual, and yes I also have to order it everytime.

0-40 I mainly for fuel mileage . My wife’s car 0-20 you run 5 to 10 -40 you will probably not notice any difference in mileage .

Get an oil analysis it will tell you the difference you do not notice…

oil viscosity is important to follow properly unless you like wiping out an engine early…

I had to order 0W40 Penzoil Ultra from Amazon. I couldn’t find it anywhere. I could find 0W40 for European vehicles but it doesn’t meet the requirements given for the 6.4.

Even though I used the correct oil, it still showed a P1521 code, incorrect oil used, when I took it to the dealer. The truck sits in the driveway for extended periods, 3 week this time, and I pretty much only drive it when towing. I started it yesterday and it sounder like a lifter was coming out the of the engine. i turned it off and restarted again and same thing. called the dealer and told them I was bringing it in, still index the CPO warranty. Started it again after getting off the phone, quiet as a church mouse. Took it in anyway just to be checked out. They called today and said it was showing a P1521 code, wrong oil, and wanted to do an oil change. The last oil change was May 25th, less that 1000 miles. i told them to go ahead even though I know I used the correct oil and Mopar filter. We’ll see what happens. I’m afraid they will try to void any warranty claims.
