Trying to figure out the offset or backspacing for the 18 and 20” stock wheels on the 5th Gen HD Rams. Would like to go up to a 295/65r20 and need the OEM numbers to figure out what the offset needs to be with minimal wheel well mods and stock suspension. Didn’t see this on the stickies but maybe I missed it?

Thanks for that important (?) correction. Coming from the 1/2 ton world where the 4th gen ended in 2018. Now do you also know where I might find the information, kind sir?

Plenty of threads here to indicate 35x12.5 are probably going to rub the radius arms @ full lock on stock wheels.

Looks like 20" offset is +55. 18" offset +20

You need to specify the trim/wheel if you want a solid answer.

Most go with a +18 offset wheel for 35x12.5 to 37" tires. That's going to move the inner wheel lip out 30mm or more depending on your stock wheel.

35" will fit all day long with no lift or trimming, just need to push them out a little if you go wide.

37" will fit that +18 offset as well without a lift but require lots of trimming and shaving down the pinch weld at the rear inner fender. They will rub at full lock.

Use the advanced search at the top of page for best results. I used "stock offset" and got this thread hit.

Google fu also works.

This might be accurate for stock wheels though I know of no 22" wheel opffering

This should help calculate suspension clearance (check stock full lock clearance).

Welcome to HDRams.

It's been beaten to death. Many groups/sites/forums capitalizing on incorrectly calling the 2019+ HD trucks 5th gen. Sometimes it's ignorance, sometimes it's about generating site traffic.

1. The HD platform is D2. It's been D2 since 2009.
2. The highest forum we have here is... 4.5 Gen.
3. When RAM designates a new platform number assuming it's whenever we ever get the 5th gen (or newer) cab, we'll change gens, at which time the Megacab fans will lose their minds..

4th generation did not end in 18 as they are still making the 4th gen now called 1500 Classic along with the 5th gens in the 1/2 tons, 2021 will be the last year for them from what i can tell as they dont offer a 2022 build and price on their website

Thanks all for the generation clarification. Getting back to the wheels and tires…

3/4 ton Laramie Crew 4wd
275/70r18s (~33”) stock

I would like to keep the stock suspension/rake, or at least see how much squat I get with my travel trailer before making any decisions. I leveled my 1500 then bought the TT 6 years later and it needed some serious help to tow level. It only weighs 6500# but it’s 650# tongue weight, hitch, and humans/canine ate up the 1/2 ton payload in a hurry. Part of the reason for going to a diesel HD.

I don’t want the weight, noise, expense, or rolling resistance of a 35/37 12.50. I’m thinking 295/65r20 (still 35” diam). Plus I prefer the narrower painted fender flares to the bulky exposed bolt ones. So if the stock 20 is +55, don’t I also need the size of the stock tire and wheel width to figure out what offset I need from the new wheel? Forgive me for being ignorant on this, I couldn’t figure out how to get the answer from Brutal’s links.

So I don’t know all that wheel stuff but maybe you can answer this question for me please.
can I put 33”x10.5” (275/70/r18) tires on a 2022 limited 4x4 instead of the 286/60/r20’s that come with it Without lifting the truck? I don’t want it to rub when full lock either.

Yes because they’re smaller than the factory tire 285/60/20 are 33.4”
