Hey gang.

I have a 2021 Cummins and noticed there isn’t a Banks Derringer available.

Anyone happen to know why?

I’ve had my eye on this tuner due to the seemingly simple install, and apparently leaves no trace should I need to remove and take to the dealer?

Please share what you know! :)

They are still trying to get the performance without having to change the injectors, is what a tech told me... not looking promising

I posted a screen shot of that same comment in a thread on the Banks FB page, and somebody asked what the ETA was, Banks replied:

LOL, they don't even have one for the 2013-2018 trucks yet. It's been "Coming soon" for so many years now I have lost count. .... In other words don't hold your breath. I'd move on to something else if I were you.

I called and they said is looking like an Oct 2023 release. It's already posted in the banks website as coming soon for 2019+ trucks.

I bet it's been held up this long because of the EPA case against Cummins. It'll probably get released some months after the recall fix is issued.

Nope, It's been "coming soon" for years and years before all of this.....

.
The settlement was just announced, probably took the EPA years to get to that point and industry insiders were probably the only ones that knew it was happening.

I don't think that Banks has anything to do with the emissions gig and Cummins. Moat of the trucks are prior to 2019, I'm looking for 2022 plus tunes

If you want a piggy back controller that tricks the ECU like the Derringer does you have options available. Edge has released products and so has Stealth.

If you want to reprogram your ECU there are also several options available, although its more expensive. Calibrated Power, Hardaway Performance, Performance Calibrations, and CCS support the 22+ trucks.

Nope... Banks just can't get his sh!t together on it. Like I said, he has been working this for years and years before all of this happened.

Either way I wouldn't waste my money on it when it is released, you are better off with real tuning then these
"fooler" boxes.

Banks doesn't have anything to do with it, but if they want to get EPA approval for their tuner, I doubt the EPA is going to approve a tuner for an engine with ongoing investigations for "emmissions Defeat devices". I'm sure Banks is itching to release this tuner asap since they'll probably make a truck load of money on it.

I don't disgree that a real tune is superior, but a lot of guys want a tuner that can be removed without a trace for warranty reasons, and this would be the best option if it ever gets released. By the time this comes out I'll probably be out of my 5 year warranty and end up getting a proper tune.

@g00fy Banks has been working on the Derringer tuner for the Cummins since as long as I can recall, easily since 2019. I don't know how on earth Banks would struggle to get something EPA approved if somehow Edge, Stealth, and others can get box tuners, and companies like PPEI, Hardway, and Calibrated Power can all release tunes.

This likely comes down to the fact that it's not a huge priority for them, and it's more tricky than they initially expected, or requires more params then what they currently have access to via the piggyback. They have to tread a fine line between cost, performance and complexity of install, which is tricky if you've got to instal half a dozen sensors and plugs when a tuner requires you just flash the ECM/TCM via the OBD.
