So I took my truck(2019 RAM 3500) in for the step recall and a couple other items. One of them was that every time it rains or I give my truck a bath, the hood fills up with water and drains when I open it. The dealer has told me it is ok as the hood has drains. I am thinking it's like saying that my shop roof can leak as long as I have a floor drain. Thoughts?

I was just a little surprised at the dealer's reaction that its ok, there are drain holes, no problem. I told the service advisor that its fine that it drains, how does it get in there? He told me it came in from the cowl which at that point I just left and thought I would go elsewhere for info. I just can't believe there isn't a good seal around the badges. I really can't believe RAM thinks its ok that every time one of their trucks are in the rain or being washed, the hood fills up with water.

It’s annoying, but it’s aluminum so rust isn’t a concern.

Maybe that's why some have trouble with the hood flutter and some don't?

Is it enough water to were if'n you live in a colder environment were winter can put the wood to ya, will the water freeze in such a block that it adds weight ( I know, frozen water and not frozen water weigh pretty much the same) to the hood to were when you have the need to open said hood will that added weight would allow the hood to come crashing down onto your coconut and leave you even more pissed? Doesn't sound like it drains fully prior to the freezing action say in an overnight precipitation event.

I'm just asking. If'n its a prolonged freeze here in the Midlands of South Carolina, I'm having a dream. I gave up the northern lifestyle (Boston) 12 years ago and have yet to shovel. That one time it did snow, I thanked goodness I had enough battery juice in the leaf-blower to get the driveway cleared.

@RamCares, Kathryn... What are the chances of RAM adding a certified tech to your team?

Hi @carlrx7
In order to determine resolutions to vehicle concerns, an in-person diagnosis must take place in order to exhaust all possible root causes. As we appreciate the assistance provided by your fellow forum members, many concerns are unique and therefore we rely on our dealers to be the eyes and ears in the field.

I think I’d drill a low point drain.

That has me concerned. Sure the hood is aluminum and won't rust. But living in an area where ice can and will destroy anything, it might actually be a real problem.
For example, 2 weeks ago I left my garden hose gun plugged in and later found that it got split in half. And that was with just fall's light freezes... imagine those extreme winter nights!

Considering the trucks have been out over the period of at least one winter with no reported issues I find this situation highly unlikely.

Probably figured why burn the calories in bringing up an issue when a blanket statement from FCA that sends you nowhere chases many away.

If that amount froze, your hood would suffer the same fate of that one Pepsi can that rolled out of the bag and took up home under the seat during that cold night. I would like everyone who got drown by storm ETA go out and open their hoods and then we can put together a % of possibilities. Just looking for water amounts, not the fact that where the truck is geographically park. Maybe this is why FCA made the hood out of aluminum....no rust no matter the amount of water that they forgot to figure in to the design.
