The most important information for Heavy Duty buyers

Ram trucks have released the towing chart and the features guide for the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty trucks. Both these documents are full of great information to help purchasers make an informed decision and spec out a truck for their needs.

2019 RAM 3500 Limited dually towing (RAM)

Towing Chart:

The towing chart breaks down payload, towing, gross vehicle weight rating, gross axle weight rating, and gross combined weight rating. One of the first things you will notice looking at the towing chart is that the 3.42 axle ratio that was previously standard on Cummins Diesel powered Ram Heavy Duties is now gone with 3.73 being the new standard gear set. Still optional is the 4.10 axle ratio for maximum towing capability.

While all 2019 Ram Heavy Duties have impressive payload and towing numbers it is important to know that as with all manufacturers, the maximum numbers are based solely on certain configurations. For example that Maximum payload rating of 7,680lbs is solely for a Ram 3500 2 wheel drive Regular cab long box dually powered by the 6.4 Hemi V8, the payload rating is the same for both axle ratios. For maximum towing of 35,100lbs, you would be looking at a 2 wheel drive Regular cab long box dually powered by the 6.7 Cummins HO with the 4.10 axle ratio. These numbers are also based off of basic trucks so keep in mind that the numbers do go down as options (and the weight associated with them) go up. Use the chart listed above to get a baseline for the configuration that you are looking at.

Features Guide:

Next up we have the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty features guide. This breaks down options and packages by trim level. As Ram announced at the 2019 Heavy Duty unveiling they have made some premium options available on every trim level. For example, the Safety Group which includes: Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop, Forward Collision Mitigation with Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Path detection, LED Headlamps and Taillamps, LED Fog Lamps, Rain Sensitive Wipers, and Smart Beam headlights are optional on all trim levels right down to the Tradesman.

Ram also has a new Tow Technology Group which includes Surround View Camera, Cargo View Camera with Dynamic Grid Lines, Trailer Reverse Guidance, Trailer Tow Mirror with Trailer Spot Lamp, and Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Path Detection.

The towing charts and feature guide are downloadable down below.

Thanks for adding the part about the max ratings being specific. Some people haven't quite comprehended that yet and the more knowledge, the better.

Max Payload is not available on the same truck that has max towing.

Max towing can not be had if you have more payload than 300lbs for passenger, and the weight of the hitch and the tongue weight take away from your payload.

You can not max your payload and still tow the maximum trailer.

The numbers are for a truck with a 33% take rate of options.

A Laramie or Limited will not even be close.

An optioned Bighorn will be less, even a Base tradesman with some options can be less also.

Thanks.

Bummer that they didn't make a rear locker an option like on the 1500s.

Note that the 35,100 towing is with gooseneck. 5th wheel is 30000 max and the regular reciever hitch will be much less as well

There is a typo on the towing guide, or a very cool new truck.

There has never been a 2500 Regular cab Shortbox...but it is listed.

Guessing that there isn't a listing for Regular Cab longbed, I am guessing it is a typo.

But I think the one Powerwagon concept years ago was a 2500 Regular Cab Shortbed. That would make it even more awesome...but i am sure just a typo
