Figured I’d start new thread and not clog up anyone else’s. So to start, I have a crewcab short bed with a B&W turnoverball. My 5v’r is a Grand Design 150 Series 278BH which came with the Turning Point pin box. Only aftermarket option to date is the Gen Y executive which is what I’m currently running. Please note, for warranty concerns, this pin box IS NOT approved by Lippert (not going into all that on this thread, I know what I got and what isn’t covered, I’m good, all others do your research and make your own decisions).

For the last 1,200 miles I’ve been running a Weighsafe Goose which is about 3” higher than a standard ball. On flat ground I have about 9 1/4” of clearance between the bed rails and front cap and can turn as sharp as needed so far. I cannot go 90* but I can turn around in my cul-de-sac and have been able to maneuver and back in everywhere I’ve been. Don’t know what the angle is but is pretty darn sharp and to be honest I don’t like binding up the trailer axles so turning sharp enough to worry about cab clearance is a rare occurrence. Since I’ll max in on pics, I’ll post the Weighsafe goose setup in this post, B&W 4” will be in post #2

Oh ya, trailer sits just a smidge nose high but tows like a dream. No issues or concerns whatsoever.

B&W 4” offset. This ball is about 2” shorter than the Weighsafe so it sits about 1” taller than a standard ball. So with this setup, there is room for days. I can open the front compartment on the 5v’r all the way and the cap clearance is huge. What I did find is now the cap will contact my rolled up cover (if tightly rolled) but the cap is still nowhere near the cab/rear window. Only went on a short drive but moving the ball back 4” didn’t seem to make the truck ride funky or handle poorly. We are heading to the coast for spring break ( about 370 miles one way) so I might run the 4” offset with a max load to verify rear squat and handling.

Nice setup… I’ve been looking at the same trailer and was wondering how it would look with a 2500

How much tighter could you turn if it didn't hit your cover? I have the folding one, and was thinking about switching to the rolling one, but glad I didn't.

If I didn’t roll it “tight” I think the cap would clear it. I’m pretty sure I could go 90* or VERY close to it. I didn’t think to just measure the cap and distance from ball to cab. If I get a chance I’ll do that today. I will say with the weighsafe in the “standard” position, I have been able to maneuver everywhere I’ve been. Really got the 4” offset cuz I’m curious.

Thanks for all of the details. Are you using both setups…or have you settled on one…and if one, why do you like that over the other?

Thanks…David
