I’m getting a new 2500 Bighorn with the Cummins engine. Is it worth getting the extended warranty?
I usually keep my vehicles a long time .
Thanks

Nope. Take that money and put it in a CD.

If you need a post factory warranty repair down the road you will have the funds plus interest to fix it. No warranty will do that for you.

I have the extended warranty right through Ram for 8 years of bumper to bumper coverage. If I don’t use it, I get a full refund at the end of the warranty period. I’d say it’s a good investment.

May I ask who you purchased your extended warranty from? Is getting a full refund if you never have to use the warranty, something you negotiated or is it standard?

"Full" minus an administrative fee.

The sooner (less mileage) you start your plan the cheaper it is. Like I said it’s 100% refundable at the end of your rearm if you didn’t used it.

The administration fee in my state is $75.00. Still well worth it.

It will be worth it after a couple DPF replacements if Ram doesn’t get their issue figured out on these 2022s.
I got an 8/100 ext warranty for the first time on any vehicle I’ve bought given the complex emissions and all the tech on the truck. My peace of mind worth that $$.

^^^^ I agree with all the electronics and emissions on there trucks, I had to have my DPF replaced the first two months I had my 2023. Due to ie being cracked? I paid $2400 for a maxcare 5/125k bumper to bumper. Out of pocket service on these trucks are big bucks…

Odds are, no. If ext warranties always paid off, they would not exist, or they'd be much more expensive. So on average, for most people, they will never pay off. Kind of like a casino. Most folks that go in lose money, but some come out ahead.

I'm not saying don't get one. It's a big peace of mind thing for owners to have it their back pocket. I have one on my 22. Just answering your question.

Better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it….in the over all cost of buying and maintaining one of these HDs over a five year period it is not that much.

What is the factory warranty got emissions ? I thought it was 100,000 miles. My 2009 f250 had it covered fr 100,000 miles and never needed it.
50-80k depending on what state you live in. There’s a supplement to your owners manual detailing the emissions warranty.

According to Forbes

Every new 2023 Ram, from the entry-level Ram 1500 pick-up to the Promaster work van, comes with the following coverages:

  • Three years or 36,000 miles, bumper-to-bumper
  • Five years or 60,000 miles, powertrain (gas models)
  • Five years or 100,000 miles, powertrain (diesel models)
  • Three years or unlimited miles, corrosion warranty (all panels)
  • Five years or unlimited miles, corrosion warranty (outer panels)
  • Two years or 24,000 miles, federal emission warranty (eight years or 80,000 miles for some components)
  • Two years or 24,000 miles, emission performance warranty

just read an article, correct me if I’m wrong. If your state doesn’t monitor emissions (say diesel) then the federal warranty is two years 24,000 miles.

For my 2022, my factory warranty manual lists 5yr/50,000 for federal emissions coverage on diesel. Doesn’t list any differences based on state of residence.

That dpends. Do you take good care of your vehicles? Do you keep up with maintenance? If you do, then the odds are that you will be ahead by not paying for an rxtended warranty.
For poor slobs that know little about vehicles, and are not good with maintenance, by all means consider a warranty.

My last Ford diesel a 7.3 was nearly trouble free for 20 years. I have high hopes for the new 6.7 Ram in my driveway.
