Auto tailgate problems?

Anyone else having issues with their auto tailgate? Mine hasn’t worked since day one, 3 trips to shop with no repair. Ram dealer said the bed liner was to thick, even though I had this issue before liner was installed (LINE-X). Had a body shop check it today, they stated no way it’s the liner. Tailgate looks out of alignment, was sticking out on passenger side before the last attempted repair, now it’s out on the drivers side.

My tailgate is exactly the same way.
I had a mechanic I trust look at it and basically told me that Ram would not likely fix it. If he measured it, it would likely be "in spec". If it's not, this is a pretty significant repair and he suggested we wouldn't want to go through that.

It causes me to have to "slam" the tailgate pretty firmly to latch. Shoddy build...? yup!

In other words, slam it and forget it

I have lineX as well and mine is not that bad but slightly off on the driver side. I noticed they did have excessive linex sprayed in the latch itself. I took a screw driver and got it out the best I could. My auto release does work and that was not affected. MY buddy has the factory spray in liner and we got them at the same time and the build dates are very close and his lines up perfectly.

My auto-open doesn’t work, have to slam it a couple times for it to latch. The trucks still has under 10k miles on it, somebody’s gonna fix mine. lol

Dealership replaced the rubber stoppers, that didn’t help either.

I had this same issue other than my auto release worked just fine. had to adjust [line -up] tailgate side pins on bedside that the tail gate latches to. lines-up perfect now. super simple to do.

Do you have a description or write up for the adjustment?

@Rockcrawlerdude , grown folks are talking...

My dealership seems to think, they don’t have to make it work correctly. If it’s not working and they’re saying it can’t be adjusted anymore...what is the remedy?

That’s funny. I like it and deserved it.

But, seriously, slam the tailgate. That’s all it needs from what I’ve seen. Closing your tailgate hard doesn’t work?

My alignment is off, I took it to a local body shop and they wanted $250.00 to realign the thing. With the truck still under a bumper to bumper warranty, I want Ram to fix it. Auto-open has never worked, and the shutting problem isn’t all the time, but when it happens it’s not making any mechanical contactIon, just hitting the stoppers.

Well dang. I hope they get it fixed.

I was hoping if you closed it hard and it aligned perfectly, then it would work.

My alignment is off every time I close it gently, or if i close it from one side. but, it’s perfect if I slam it. So, I have to slam it every time.

I think FCA/Ram is gonna take care of me, and have a body shop attempt to align it. Sad thing is the dealership had it for 7days and didn’t address the issue.

Should have had em address it when the truck was there for the cp4 that would have given them tons of time lol

The same dealership that replaced the CP4, had it twice for the tailgate before the CP4. They said I had to find a dealership with a body shop.
