So I ran into a little problem today doing my oil change.
I normally use a WIX 57060 or 57060XP oil filter.
So I grab a filter and oil and head home. Go and grab my cup oil filter wrench and go to check it on the new filter and the filter is smaller than the wrench. WTH?
So I climb under the truck and check the wrench on that filter and it fits. ???
I go ahead and remove the old filter to check the numbers. New one is 57060 old one is 57060XP.
That cant be right that one is bigger than the other? Only difference is the filter material inside.

So back to the store. We grabbed both number filters and both are smaller than my filter wrench.
Grab a microgard 57060 and it fits.
Hmm. So WIX changed the size of their outer shell. Guess I'll be using Microgards from now on. Or buy ANOTHER filter wrench. Like I need another one.

Also this is what I found off WIXX. The only difference I see is the XP has synthetic media.

Yea, that's the only difference.
But it seems they changed the packaging on all of the 57060 filters. We checked both 57060 and 57060XP filters, brand new out of the box, and they spin in my filter cup. So the made it just a little smaller than the old original so that now my oil filter cup wrench I've been using for a year of changing my filters will no longer work on their filters.
And there is not enough room up in the truck to use a band style wrench easily.
I have the cuts and banged knuckles to prove it.

Weird I’ve been using the XP version of that filter for the last few oil changes and hadn’t noticed a difference. I use a set adjusting filter wrench though so I wouldn’t have known anyway.

Yeah I don't know why stellantis can't go euro style and put the filter design up top.
Yea, that's the only difference.

Yep. My Genesis 5.0 sedan, the filter was up top and easy to change.
Then on the second gen, it went back to the bottom, but was still easy to get to.
If it's got to be on the bottom, make like the Chevy. Even the new LS motor still has it on the bottom, easy to get to.

mopar filters and this = easy peasy. :)
I know people hate OEM filters but I have been using OEM filters on every vehicle I have owned since the 70's and never had an oil or filter issue.IMG_20220730_153251619.jpgIMG_20220730_153256575.jpg

Jadmt. That's what I have. But the new filters are a bit smaller so spin in it.

Cjtex, I have something similar, just no room in there to turn it. It's a pain to get up in there.

Yea, I know I can go buy ANOTHER filter wrench. I have 4 different types already.
Just dont appreciate them changing the size, but keeping the same part number after all these years.
