The alternator on my 2029 Ram 2500 Cummings Diesel takes almost a minute before it starts charging. Prior to the start of output, voltage can be as low as 11 volts. New batteries installed, same issue. is this normal?

2029?

That’s normal if you have a single alternator. The grid heater is doing a post-heat cycle and takes a lot of power.

Thanks. Batteries were not strong enough to turn over engine. They needed replacement. While checking out electrical system was when I noticed the voltage delay issue.
