So far I'm pretty happy with my new truck. I've got about 1500 miles on it and the only real issue is the rear sliding window doesn't want to close sometime and makes a ticking noise. What is driving me crazy though is the squealing noise at start up. It sounds like a belt, gets worse when you put it in gear, and then almost goes away once the truck is fully warmed up. From browsing other forums it appears this is a very common problem that a lot of 6.4 trucks have. Some owners have claimed it is the exhaust and I have crawled under the truck at start up and it does sound like it is coming from the exhaust between the engine and the cats. I haven't been able to find any information on a fix or solution to the noise. It's a little embarrassing when people want to check out your new truck and they immediately ask what that noise is.

I have what I thought was belt noise, which began a couple weeks after purchase. 2300 miles now and the noise does go away after the truck warms up. The noise is loudest from underneath the truck. I need to get to the dealer - issue I have is leaving the truck and trusting the dealer can figure it out. Agree it’s embarrassing! Rolling through the parking lot lot sounding like a an old car that needs a belt change :(

Can you let us know if the noise disappears after you have your new exhaust installed, and/or what your dealer states? That may give us one process of elimination item before hitting the dealer!

From reading other forums it appears most dealers either change belts or water pumps which does nothing to fix the problem, or they state it is normal for the truck to make that noise. Several owners have had the service guys start up new 6.4's on the lot and almost all of them make the same noise. I read somewhere that one owner wedged something in the Y pipe area of the exhaust and the noise went away leading him to believe that is where the problem is. When I crawled under the truck at start up it sounded to me like the noise was coming from the exhaust before the cats. If that is the case then that part of the exhaust system might need to be replaced. I'm going to make an appointment to get my rear slider fixed, I'll talk to my dealer also.

Anyone have any luck figuring out what this noise is? I haven't had a chance to get my truck to the dealer but from my research I don't have high hopes. I crawled under the truck at start up again and the noise is definitely coming from the exhaust area and not the engine bay.

Picking up my 6.4 in a few minutes from the dealer. New one on lot has the chirp sound also. Dealer said they have heard the sound and until enough people complain manufacturer isn’t going to act. On a positive note the dealer did tell me it’s the exhaust making this noise. I told them this does make sense due to the general location from where the noise is emanating AND the noise disappears after driving the truck. I’m not too concerned now. Annoying but not a show stopper to make me get rid of the truck... AC performance is driving me to look at F250’s. If I didn’t live in the south I may not be as concerned with the AC. I hope your chirping sound goes away after the truck is up to temperature like mine does. Let us know if you would!

You can hear what almost sounds like a leak but it's not the screeching sound.

If you could video the sound it might be helpful. I know in the past their Y pipe was an inefficient design. 2 pipes smashed into 1 single pipe. By smashed I mean squashed. An inefficient design that if they changed or don't manufacture correctly could cause a whistle.
With that being said I hope mine doesn't whistle when I get it. I always change out the exhaust due to the fact (older design) it's usually whisper quiet. I was pleased that this truck sounds way better than in the past though.

My truck the noise was getting worse, two dealers and involved Ramcares and I’m told the chirping squealing noise was normal. With the weak ac and this noise and the cold start lifter tick (I could of tried redline for this but did not) I traded the truck in yesterday for a 2019 Platinum F250. The most bothersome of the three was the weak ac... I just couldn’t handle being hot when driving shorter distances. I really had hoped RAM would address and I’m truly pissed about it.

Has anyone figured this out yet? Hadn’t noticed until yesterday when I put my windows down. Started cold and was driving through a parking lot and the awful squeal was reflecting off of the cars on each side. It was quite loud! I have a new 2019 Bighorn with a 1000 miles on it. Sound went away after warming up.

Hey everyone last week I picked up a 2019 2500 tradesmen with the 6.4 and at a cold start or anytime I let the truck sit for a couple hours it has a really bad squeaking noise. First I thought belt but it sound like it’s coming from exhaust it is so embarrassing on a brand new truck with 100 miles on it. I’m so frustrated with this I have taken it back to the dealership 2 times and they just keep telling me it’s normal and giving me the run around. This is not normal it’s embarrassing and the dealership or ram needs to make this right so I can enjoy this truck and feel like I bought a new truck and not an old truck

Yup. Super annoying. If this is your only issue though you’re in good shape. Just hope you don’t have the front end clunk or rear ended rattle or hood that shakes like crazy on the highway. I have it all. Oh, and don’t forget the MDS that vibrates and turns on and off about 100 times on the way to town. The interior is nice though.

1000 miles into my ownership and I've never heard any tick, squeal or MDS vibration. MDS kicks in while cruising around town frequently (though never on the highway) and saves me a bit of mpg there so I like it as it's basically seamless activating and deactivating. I actually get better mpg around town than I do on the good ol SD 80+ mph interstates and pretty much even compared with normal 70 mph highways.
