I got this figured out... LOL
Had to stand back , forget all the numbers of buying stuff (truck, RV, hitches, generators, etc...).
This may help the "are you smarter than a 10 year old" types
You will need some numbers.
Truck:
GVWR
Actual weight
OEM Payload max
Max trailer weight.
Hitch/5th wheel shipping weight
Trailer:
Trailer GVWR
Actual trailer weight.
Hitch/Pin weight
In my case I am seeing what the biggest 5th wheel I can drag and stay both legal and safe.
My 2500
10,000 lb GVWR
Paylod is pretty much 3,000 lbs
That leaves me 7K for the guesstimated actual weight. I will weight this bitch tonight or tomorrow. I am just a few miles from a Cat Scale.
I am guessing around 6600 with just me and the day to day stuff I have in the truck, which is not much.
That leave me 3400 for "cargo" including my little narrow ass (155 lbs), and maybe tops 100 lbs of ****.
So add 250 lbs to the 6600.
6850 actual truck weight.
I would guess a decent tier 5th wheel would weight about 325 lbs
7175 gross weight
Trailer:
I have seen the shipping weight on this so. 10,218. Lets call it 10,220 for easy math
I am betting I will put 2K lbs of **** in it. Gas bottles, personal stuff, tools, liquids, etcc.
Now we are at lets say... 10,225.
The GVWR is 13,890 lbs, so we are good to go there too.
Gross combo weight is approx.
trlr = 12,225
Truck = 7,175
Total = 19,400 (say 19.5 for easy math)
we are now 2600 lbs under MAX GVWR ---- good news, right.
Now, we have to deal with the pin weight on the 5th wheel.
Everyone agrees that approx 20% of the GVWR of the trailer is a solid number
12,250 * .20 % = 2450 (even though the mfg say 1400)
We have the 5th wheel bolted to the bed of the truck, so we need to add that in.
2450 (pin weight) + 350 lbs for the 5th wheel = 2800 lbs
we are good here too as the max cargo is 3000
I would call this a 90% of total recommended GCVW.
Sometimes the internet wants to over complicate **** with bickering about this **** LOL
