Ok, riddle me this.

2022 2500 Tradesman
6.4L
Crew Cab
4x4
8 foot bed.

Ram states 14,700 towing cap.
GVWR is 10,000
GCVW is 22,000
payload in 3K
If I add max towing and GVWR, I get 24,700.
That is a bit more than 22K.

Explain this to me like I am 12 years old... LOL

I would assume that is accounting for the pin weight or tongue weight for whatever you are towing since that counts against both your payload as well as the towing cap.

I am just looking at the GCWR.
22K

If I add the GVWR and the tow weight, that is 24,700
Evidently math are hard for Ram or I am a bit 'tarded

That pretty well sums it up. That 2100 pounds of pin weight consumes part of the 14,700 max tow, but it also consumes part of the 10,000 GVWR.

In order to get to the 24,700 you'd need an RV with no pin weight.

Yabbut, the GCWR is 22K.... with a combined actual weight of 24,700, I would be over gross by 2470 lbs, no?

Yes, if you were somehow able to find a zero pin weight RV that weighed in right at the max and had the truck fully loaded, it would indeed push past the 22k. But since that isn't realistic and you will indeed have to account for the pin weight, that's what brings you back down to the 22k

Have you checked Rams site to get actual numbers for your truck? Those towing guides are normally not that accurate, this doesn't answer your question exactly, but you will have real numbers for your calculations by using your VIN

GCWR and GVWR are separate ratings, you don't combine them.
If your GVWR is 10K with 3K payload it means your truck weights 7K. Add 14.7K to that and you're right under stated GVWR of 22K. a part of 14.7 trailer will be in the truck as a tongue weight and that could not exceed a 3K payload.
All looks clear to me.

The way I understand it:

GVWR - Weight of your truck = Payload. The maximum amount of stuff you can put in the truck including weight of trailer on the truck. GVWR is 10,000# for 2500s. In the circled picture it is estimating your truck weighs 6830# with a payload of 3170#.
GCWR - Weight of trailer = Weight of loaded truck. They add some weight to the truck for driver, fuel or some other stuff. So with GCWR of 22,000" - Trailer max of 14,700# = a truck weight of 7300#. With that you have about 2700# you can put on the truck for the trailer tongue to get you to 10K GVWR up to a total of 14,700# overall for the trailer.

I got this figured out... LOL
Had to stand back , forget all the numbers of buying stuff (truck, RV, hitches, generators, etc...).

This may help the "are you smarter than a 10 year old" types

You will need some numbers.

Truck:
GVWR
Actual weight
OEM Payload max
Max trailer weight.
Hitch/5th wheel shipping weight

Trailer:
Trailer GVWR
Actual trailer weight.
Hitch/Pin weight

In my case I am seeing what the biggest 5th wheel I can drag and stay both legal and safe.
My 2500
10,000 lb GVWR
Paylod is pretty much 3,000 lbs
That leaves me 7K for the guesstimated actual weight. I will weight this bitch tonight or tomorrow. I am just a few miles from a Cat Scale.
I am guessing around 6600 with just me and the day to day stuff I have in the truck, which is not much.
That leave me 3400 for "cargo" including my little narrow ass (155 lbs), and maybe tops 100 lbs of ****.
So add 250 lbs to the 6600.
6850 actual truck weight.
I would guess a decent tier 5th wheel would weight about 325 lbs
7175 gross weight

Trailer:
I have seen the shipping weight on this so. 10,218. Lets call it 10,220 for easy math
I am betting I will put 2K lbs of **** in it. Gas bottles, personal stuff, tools, liquids, etcc.
Now we are at lets say... 10,225.
The GVWR is 13,890 lbs, so we are good to go there too.

Gross combo weight is approx.
trlr = 12,225
Truck = 7,175
Total = 19,400 (say 19.5 for easy math)
we are now 2600 lbs under MAX GVWR ---- good news, right.

Now, we have to deal with the pin weight on the 5th wheel.
Everyone agrees that approx 20% of the GVWR of the trailer is a solid number
12,250 * .20 % = 2450 (even though the mfg say 1400)
We have the 5th wheel bolted to the bed of the truck, so we need to add that in.
2450 (pin weight) + 350 lbs for the 5th wheel = 2800 lbs
we are good here too as the max cargo is 3000

I would call this a 90% of total recommended GCVW.

Sometimes the internet wants to over complicate **** with bickering about this **** LOL

You're being too optimistic. If the payload on your door jamb sticker is 3170 or whatever, don't expect it to be any more than that, it's usually less. Payload is GVR - trucks weight as it came off the assembly line, including a full tank of fuel.
I'd expect your truck to weight at closer to 7K lbs than 6600 if your stated payload is 3170

Now I have to go hit a Cat scale so we can see.
Who knows, maybe it will help someone else, worth the $15

That just means you can't carry full load and tow max weight at the same time

Ok, here is the actual weight of the truck with two 50# bags of sand in the box, dont ask... LOL

3/4ths of a tank of gas. It has the 50 gal tank.
Gas is what, 8.4 lbs per gallon. I will call it 7200 no sand and a full tank.
Now I see where Ram got the 2955 lbs as cargo. Now I can see what kind of trailer I can drag around.

Told you so. ;) Weight just keep creeping up no one knows how, lol.
Were you in or out of the truck when weighing?
