Howdy, any reason to do the first oil change on a standard output early? Or just wait for the ECM/EVIC to tell me to change? Thanks in advance

I just had my first oil change done at 3600 miles. I've always done my vehicles early for the first change though.

Never hurts to get out the ‘’hunks and junk’’ out. Hay ya know any metal and what not from breaking in. Also if you live far enough Nort you may want to get er out if the snow is a comin because that sunny Mexico oil won’t cut it.

Changed mine at 10k kms just because dealer keep bugging me with their reminders and it's been a year (back in Feb) since I picked it up at the dealer.
Since then it's been sitting as I'm again stuck at work overseas. It will very likely have just a few thousands kms at most, maybe even the same mileage as it was back in Feb if I "continue being stuck" here down under.

Will it void my warranty if I don't change the oil for over a year if I don't drive it at all? I don't see dealers change oil in all their stock vehicles sitting on their lots...

On my 2019 I did my first Oil Change and Fuel Filters at 8k and the second one at 18K on the way to 28K

My 2019 i did at 20k km was at 10% i go by the evic thats the best way to do it..... you get the most wear at 2-3k after an oilchange due to the detergents and what not so changing the oil to frequently is actually doing more harm....

I follow the gauge, and if I am towing a lot I will change with 25% oil life.

Also don’t rinse-and-repeat in the shower. Live dangerously.

The ECM/EVIC is programmed to show oil and fuel filter replacements at 15,000 miles. It does not check the condition of the oil.

No it is not checking the oil quality but it changes with driving habits and temperatures.... its not just a timer like you are suggesting.... oil analysis proves its not pushing the oil change limits

I put 462,000 miles on my 2015 Ram. It would indicate 0% oil and fuel filter life at exactly 15,000 miles every time. The same with the Perform service warning every 67,500 miles. They are based on predetermined mileage settings and nothing else.

You were most likely doing the ideal driving for oil life length such as highway.... it clearly states in the manual it can change, my 19 it hit 0 at 20,000km which is only about 12.5k miles....

from the manual...
Change engine oil every 15,000
miles (24,000 km) or 12 months or
500 Hours or sooner if prompted by
the oil change indicator system.

I haven't decided yet, but there's no way I'm pushing oil change intervals out that far. I'll likely end up in the middle somewhere, maybe every 10-12,000kms ?

This is mostly a matter of personal belief. I have always did the first oil change early and likely always will. Followup changes per the owners manual or closer to evic reminder. At least now the recommended change cycle is a lot more reasonable and not just on a six month basis like earlier years.
