6.4HEMI

A friend of mine drove the new Ford 7.3, and he said he would not pick it over the 6.4, and he is a Ford man.
curious to know reason(s)?

the 7.3 is a beast and the tranny seems to be doing fine. the problem is the truck wrapped around it with terrible sync system, and cheapest interiors at a premium price tag over the Ram.

I am a Ford guy, I even have FORD tattoos on my flesh. But because of the lame SYNC and the cheesy interior... I drive RAM.

If what you want is a fast truck with a blower, get a TRX! 6.2 Supercharged V8 and can still do some towing. No its not an HD but it is the baddest truck out there.

Give me a true 5th Gen Ram Cab with the 7.3/10spd and I am good to go!

--GM--Purely subjective but i like how the new trucks look. Its a polarizing design and not everyone likes it but I sure do. Also it can be argued that the IFS offers a softer, more comfortable ride than Ford or Ram.
My last truck was a chevrolet. The IFS is absolute garbage. Mine was falling apart after 90K on the truck.

As for the Ford? I wouldn't be surprised to see the Tremors start taking a bite out of the market share the Power Wagon has dominated for almost 10 years.

Agree on all points. The IFS has its weak points, then again so does the solid axle set ups on the Ford and some Ram's (death wobble).

Those Tremors are nice and the 6.7 PS is a beast. But i cant get past the trashy Ford interior.

From what he said, on paper, the 7.3 is way better, but on the street, it wasn't that much better. Ram was better in his opinion on interior by far, and ram was a better value. He wasn't shopping at that time, but wanted to check both out. I have no opinion, as I have not driven a new 7.3

Only thing that stopped me from a 7.3 Ford tremor in december was the interior and price tag!
I could live with the interior and think the SD looks better than any other truck but when I bought my PW I could not find a 7.3 Tremor anywhere...well I could find one I just could not afford it. About $20,000 more than my PW cost me.

A lot of this is just personal preference, I have owned several trucks over the last decade. I went from a 2014 Tundra Limited to a 2014 F 150 Platinum with Eco Boost. In my opinion one that I stated several times on my rv forum the Tundra just had better feel leaving from a stop, when towing and going up inclines. It was pointed out to me that based on transmission ratio combined with the rear gearing that the Ford should have been better. Though I found the difference on paper to be negligible. I even installed a Roush stage 2 cold air and program to the Ford. The Ford was a great truck loved a lot about it but if given a choice between the two think I would stick with the Tundra.

I drove the 7.3 in a Tremor package and while it was a nice truck the interior was just blah and the truck was thousands more than a PW or my loaded up Big Horn. I wouldn't say it was light years ahead of the Hemi by any means. We all want more, bigger, faster but in the end these are heavy a$$ trucks meant to work. The value you get with the Ram can't be touched by the competition....yet. If I was working the truck daily....Ford all day long and that has to do with way more than the engine/transmission combo. As a somewhat DD the Ram is just a better fit.

I do not research Fod or Chevy so bear with me.

Did the 7.3l Gas Engine in Ford just come out? Not even a year yet I believe?

RAM just did away with the 5.7l Hemi in the HD.

Their claim right now is the most powerful standard HD engine. By horsepower.

If you do not believe there is a reason to this...then please...go buy the Ford.

When RAM hit the 2019 model year it had the most powerful gas engine in an HD truck. Ford came out with the 7.3l and took that crown. RAM changed its marketing to most powerful standard engine.

Remember the rumors of the Banshee engine...when there was to be 2 variants of the TRX?

When ford hit with the 7.3l no one knew what the power was gonna be. Well...the rumored Banshee actually would have beat it. But I believe RAM held off for the unknown.

I would fully expect to see an optional BGE in the RAM somewhere to the tune of 440 cu in.

Wouldnt expect it this year...but I would expect it soon. RAM loves to do mid year upgrades.

So wait, or go buy a Ford. Plenty of people making the jump to RAM, especially new 6.4l HEMI owners.

Make the jump.they wont miss you

I don't agree that the power wagon is behind; the power wagon is a special case designed specifically for offroading duty. So a huge heavy diesel does not make sense there, and the power wagon is more capable off road than the Tremor is despite the engine choices in the Tremor. It doesn't matter whether 90% offroad them or not, it's a specific truck meant for a specific task and it does come out on top in that task.

And the GM; well it has a nice upgraded engine, but it's still using a 6 speed transmission so comparing drive train to drive train, the 6.4 with 8 speed is better than the 6.6 with 6 speed.

It's basically the 7.3 with 10 speed that is the "problem" for Ram. They need to address that, as well as the 5.7 in the 1500 which is also lacking compared to competition as it has nothing to offer; it's not the biggest/baddest v8 (the chevy 6.2 is) and its not the most powerful overall (the Ford 3.5 turbo is). Even Nissan is more competitive with their 5.6 and a 9 speed which is truly embarrassing.

But I also take DevilDodge's point and I've made that same argument myself; these trucks all tend to leap frog eachother after there respective refreshes, right now Ram is behind in their powertrains but hopefully they address that shortly.

And I still think that when you look at the entire package, Ram does come out on top. Doesn't mean it doesn't have work to do, just means that all things considered I'd still pick a Ram over the competition.

The Tremor is a reasonably cool looking truck, but the Power Wagon is a much better looking truck, and interior to interior, there is no comparison. I also still believe, dollar to dollar, the Ram is a better value also. At 60 years old, I don't care that the 7.3 has more power. Does my 6.4 pull my travel trailer? With ease and with room to spare!
Is my Ram comfortable? Substantially more so than my Ford was!
Did my Ram empty my bank account? Nope!
Is my interior nicer model to model? Without a doubt!

If I was 30, the power game might be a bigger player for me, but I don't care that much any more. Comfort and ability is all I need now.

Agreed with almost all the points listed above, and have no intent to leave Ram. Im just not going to hide facts and facts are Ram is behind on power wars, doubt it will last long though!

Maybe minor but they need to go to math class and round up the 4.5 to a true 5 Gen interior mirroring the 1500.

RAM has the Mega Cab. They give 2 ****s about a quad cab or making the crew bigger.

As stated. They have the most powerful standard engine. At the time they had the most powerful optional engine. I give 2 ****s about the diesel, so not sure who is winning that pissing match currently.

They had the highest max tow. Then Chevy beat them with a lighter truck...barely. But RAMS best seller...Crew shortbed 4x4 has the highest in the class anyways. RAM dont care.

As far as the Powerwagon needing more power to be true to its roots...give me a break. Do you know how powerful the original Powerwagon was...it was anemic. Do you know which one goes down the highway better. The Powerwagon is a great honor to the original.

A few years ago...the Rebel grille club was going to be a sub brand. It got back burnered...but if the war heats up...it will be fun. RAM has all kinds of goodies waiting for the day.

Look at Dodge and RAM history...the smog era was about to kill the muscle car....Dodge makes the Lil Red Express and even beats the corvette that year.

Back in the late 60s they had the 426 max wedge truck, when no one else had a factory fast truck.

1994. 8.0l V10 Magnum. Spent many years more Powerful than The Cummins. I own one. Top of the power wars for years.

The Hemi comes out in 2003. Set the truck engine wars on fire. RAM puts thr Viper engine in the truck...crickets from the other manufacturers for years.

And now...the Hellcat has come to RAM. I THINK THEY ARE AHEAD

No ONE is arguing with you sir. We are all RAM folks hence why I frequent this forum. I am a consumer, and as a consumer relish at the fact that we have competition because we all win. Great facts you presented though.
