CP4 to CP-ISB21S3 (revised CP3) change for 2021 6.7L Diesel Trucks -- Merged Threads

Does installing the Industrial injection pump negate warranty? If it doesn't, I am interested.

It is a shame as I bought my truck for peace of mind with respect to reliability i.e. Cummins reputation/Truck of the Year award etc.

Owning this truck now gives me great concern as having it shut off and the resulting loss of control while I am driving with my family is more than an inconvenience. At this point I consider my truck a deathtrap as it sits now and it should stay parked.

I’m sure it would yes. But the biggest warranty concern at the moment for most is what? That’s up to them to answer but emissions has proven to be better than expected even with frequent DEF use, the power plant is largely unchanged but the hydraulic lifters seem to be working out well so really the only thing you’re banking on is the CP4 to hold out long enough for you to use your warranty?

I would bargain that most wouldn’t notice the pump difference anyway or look past it.

That said the decision is yours at the end of the day.

The industrial pump much like the S&S pump is a drop in no tune. It’s flow rated to the same as the CP4 with minor modifications (mounting and the ECM stand off).

Personally I’m going to throw that pump and forget about all of this.

Got a call back

They will not be swapping CP3s into 19-20 trucks. They will only do that if it fails and the new TSB or Service notifications suggest a new pump and as they told me “specifically suggests replacement to a CP3.” If it doesn’t say that then they would swap with the same pump on it now.

So, wait til she goes and hope it doesn’t is the summary.

Can’t wait for my industrial injection pump to arrive lol. This dealer stuff is frustrating at best and as always, disappointing.

That's weird the way they put it. I am still thinking failed pumps will get a sym dimple. I can't see them selectively changing out to the new CP3.x for some but not others.

My bet is it absolutely will as far as anything breaking fuel system or even engine wise. You might hear a blurb here or there about it won't from a rando service advisor or even a call to CS, but unless it's in writing I wouldn't trust it at all. If all this was over a $300 part on a $600 repair job maybe it wouldn't be such a big deal with the trust game, but we're talking 10-20k here. Go do a Blue Book on your truck right now. They'll give $45k for my loaded 3,500 mile truck lol. A CP4 failure is half the entire value of the freaking truck.

I don't need it for work or to make money, meaning I could live with their crap Compass rental, but my fear is also it crapping out half way down a grade towing or out in BFE with a 3 and 5 year old to have to entertain for hours while a tow rig comes and gets our entire $90k setup.

Even out of warranty 5 years from now if it makes it that long I'm pissed I have to spend $3k putting a part on just to fix their BS. I used to spend that kind of money on a new trans or a set of heads that actually did cool stuff to fast cars, not just to add 0HP/0TQ to continue to allow the truck to do the basic function I paid $60k for. The attorney will be getting the first call after roadside assistance at this point

I don't understand the part about the blue book value; how could that possibly have been affected by a CP4 issue? Or, for that matter, any issue?
AFAIK, blue book values are calculated based on deals that actually occur. Even if a couple were already "fire sale priced" I can't see how that would have moved the needle much.

BTW, I looked at the value of my 2020 3500 ltd, and it showed $71k. So a bit confused right now on the blue book part...

Thanks,

B

I think he may be referring to his specific model and what it’s valued on KBB, and if he has a failure from CP4 it’ll be about half the cost of his trucks worth.

Dodge has sold thousands and thousands of these trucks, and personally not seeing a ton that have failed. Of course there’s a good amount but I bet the overall % is low.

It’s the LONG term that I am interested to see, when your trucks out of warranty and it goes, not many are going to take that 10-15k and repair it themselves, that’s a big deposit on a new rig!

My guess is you would go through your insurance, fix it and then sell it.

Folks keep saying go through insurance to do the repair if the pump goes out of warranty. I am confused how insurance would cover the pump failure.......

MBI is the type of insurance you’ll need to look into!

I decided to do some googling on this because I was curious about the same thing. Apparently when the dealer claims it was caused by contaminated fuel you might be able to use that to file a claim under comprehensive. Here is one thread I was reading.

Years ago a buddy had a full service fuel station put gasoline in his diesel. He want after them and their insurance had to pay for his repair.
I'm thinking if FCA or dealer comes back with contaminated fuel, would it not be the same - go after the fuel station?

Has anyone successfully done that?

You typically wouldn't go after them yourself directly. You file an insurance claim and the insurance carrier, through subrogation, goes after the at fault party. This is why many of us recommend you record and track all fuel purchases.

I have GEICO mechanical breakdown insurance for this reason. $3.xx/mo. Can renew up to 8 years and I think 125k miles. Have to add it within the first 15mo or 15k miles of a new vehicle.

When I called and asked dude said as long as you didn't purposely do anything to sabotage it would cover. I don't know how it wouldn't cover. Water goes in fuel, truck mechanically breaks down.

GEICO mechanical breakdown insurance

Does that cover water in fuel? I doubt it.
It should. I know first hand that in the past that has been covered on multiple claims. Unless it has changed drastically in the past few years it would be covered.

Quick google search shows a lot of information with Ford owners and their CP4 failures, it sounds like they’re too singing the same tune as us over here with 19-20MY.

My 21Ho had a delivery date of December 15 haven’t seen it yet I’ll post up build date And pump when I do see it. living in South Texas you would think the train would stop here first coming out of Mexico.

I have a asymmetrical **** pump and this is now how I started filling my truck. Hope to get a different pump thou. 10 micron water block into a 2 micron particulate
