Always on Camera Solution - NAViKS

Well I seem to have run into an issue with my testing. I have lost the ability to set many of the instrument cluster variables. All the options you get for the various parts of the display corners, sides etc. I assumed the Naviks unit was a likely cause so worked out a plan of attack with them to start trouble shooting the issue using both modules I have. To my surprise after working down to no Naviks harness at all in the truck my problem persisted. So it went in to the dealership yesterday to "update the instument cluster software" which they thought should fix it. Well I just picked up my supposedly fixed truck and it is exactly the same except it now has different values presumably set when the tech tested it. So since I don't want the Naviks unit in the truck while this gets sorted out for warranty reasons my testing is unfortunatly temporarily delayed. I don't know how long I have had this issue. My truck has 6400 miles on it with over 3000 of those with the Naviks unit. When you remove power from the truck the reboot that happens after you power back up resets lots of things. So I have just run my cluster in the rebooted default settings since my first Naviks install back in Sept. Since then a lot has happened behind my radio screen by myself and Naviks with lots of battery disconnects along the way. I have no way to know if my current problem has any relationship to the Naviks unit at all and for now I am assuming it doesn't. I am very anxious to get the unit back in the truck as all indications looked pretty good. BTW I asked Naviks about the 2019 they used to come up with the fix for my 2020. They said the 19 had the same issues as mine needing the same fix. During that discussion they indicated a file comparison of the 2019 and 2020 showed exactly the same 600ish lines of code with the only difference being the 1 vs 2 Aux inputs. Given that it seems like it would work for a 2021 if it doesn't change.

If anyone here knows any tips or tricks or posts regarding issues with th instrument cluster please let me know.

@RBarrett ..... Sorry your having issues with your truck. As you noted, hopefully FCA work’s this out quickly for you.
No one likes having a brand new vehicle sitting at a dealership, let alone having them not know what is the actual issue causing the troubles.

I have removed power (neg battery pull on both) from the truck trying to get my Front camera select button and gridlines (ala PowerWagon) working and none of the custom settings in the EVIC changed.

FYI, for anyone looking at the Brandmotion 9002-7801V2 camera kit that's been recommended, the listed specs are BS.

They claim 90* horizontal view angle and it is only 70*. I'm a little pissed about that. I bought that kit expecting to get a 90* camera which is what I need. 70* won't even see past the end of my boat when I aim it down to see the hitch for hookup.

At this point, instead of messing with a return (I'm right at 30 days), I'll just order a proper camera from the RVCams guy like I was going to, and use this harnesses for the trailer and wire this POS camera as a second bed cam to better see my 5th wheel hitch.

Update. My instrument cluster is the problem and needs replacing according to the dealership. Some memory aspect of the cluster electronics has malfunctioned. I spent some time Tuesday with Naviks while they were in that 2019 they have access to with the newest module installed. They were able to verify they see no similar behavior with the cluster that I am having. As a result of all this it seems pretty clear that there is no relationship between my current issue and the Naviks modification. So now I just need to get my truck back, reinstall the Naviks unit and finish up the testing. Apparently the cluster has to be programed by FCA for the truck so the mileage is correct so don't know how long l wait. A pain for sure.

Great you found the problem and even better it isn't related to the Naviks unit!
Once you've confirmed functionality do you happen to know when Naviks expect to be able to ship updated unit?

I expect Naviks could do that pretty quickly. The difference in hardware is the one or two Aux inputs. Their modules are programable so as soon as we know we are good they would need to program those. If we have enough people still interested in a group buy it might take longer to orchestrate that aspect of the whole thing than anything else. I was discussing with Naviks quite a while ago how we would do the group buy but after identifying there were issues needing a fix haven't worried about it. Got to get it right first.

I just got off the phone with Naviks this morning and it looks like we are finally there. I have verfied that all of the prior issues have been fixed. They have determined that one product can be used on all the 12 inch screen HDs with the surround camera option. Those with one Aux input will be only able to use one of the RCAs. Naviks said all the harnesses will have two RCAs on them. So now we need to reassess if we have enough people here to proceed with a group buy. Naviks has sold a couple of the prior problematic units to some of the people here who couldn't wait. If someone here can figure out how many people are still in that would be good. A long time has passed trying to get this thing sorted out. If we have enough interest I will work with Naviks to see that we get the discount. If we do, or not, I will be able to answer questions about the product for those wanting more information. For those few that had a 8 inch screen truck Naviks has no solution right now but if anyone was able to provide a truck close to NYC they can fix you up and incude you in our group. That's it for now. Let's get a current the head count.

Here is the list as it stands.. Not sure who bought one already from this list though. Could everyone please confirm (ASAP) their willingness to purchase still?

I'm still in.

How do you know if you have 1 or 2 Aux inputs? Something you find out when pulling radio out to install the unit?

I'm absolutely still in! and ready!

The Aux inputs are identified in one of the trucks camera view screens. It may be that only trucks ordered with the optional camera wiring have this. I don't remember. There is a harness to add this option after the fact so there must be a way to activate the Aux inputs later also. Perhaps Alpha OBD would do this and allow external camera input with just Naviks RCAs. The 2019s had one Aux and the 20s have two. It may also be that trucks have none. The Naviks unit would get you one step closer in any event. Perhaps somebody who has added the harness might chime in here.
