Fuel System Failure?

Just for thought, I wonder how many of the CP4 pump fallers had any type of engine mod done to it. I find it hard to believe that Ford and Ram still opted to install a CP4 knowing of the issue they have had . CP4 has been in use for nearly a decade and still being used today. what gives. Are these so called engineers needing to go back and educate them self's or what ?
I just learned something new, didn't know they have been around that long.

this question is for RAMCares,
As a potential buyer I would like to know what is being done to fix cp4/Fuel system failures?
Also if there is a updated system would it be on the new 2021 Cummins model?
I think it’s great that RamCares communicate with owners and potential buyers through forms.
I’m always told that communication is healthy. Please keep us updated.
2m12v: just so you know, awhile back I started an actual thread titled @RamCares so they can have a one stop shop, so you might also want to copy and paste to cover all your bases. Im sure we can make an exception for an important multiple posting

It's not the engineers, it's the bean counters. My buddy is a retired Chrysler engineer. The engineers design something to work, and are then given weight and cost parameters that HAVE to be met. The company calls it Material Cost Management, or MCM, for short. The engineers called it MCM=Make Customers Mad. Sad but true, and it is at all companies. Cummins has definitely moved away from their built like an anvil philosophy, and have moved down several pegs on my personal Respect-O-Meter.

All though it be private this is what I submitted.
I purchased a knew 20 ram 3500 and all though I haven't had the issue happen to me yet, I'm a nervous wreck that it will and my family and I will be stranded. There are hundreds if not thousands of people having experienced a catastrophic failure of the fairly new cp4 fuel pump. When this goes, it takes out the whole fuel system resulting in $17,000 worth of damage. What's worse is that your stranded ,with out a vehicle. Dealerships are only doing a limited amount of loaners but not a vehicle equal to what you had. Some have waited for months and fca doesn't appear to be doing anything to correct these issues. Some of us travel hundreds of miles at a time with an rv in tow that is a considerable amount of weight. Quite often when you travel, there is nothing around or place to coast to, or even in the most best areas. The cp3 was proven equipment that worked well and while I understand and encourage the advancement of technology, you have to be willing to acknowledge a problem when you have one, especially what could result in a safety issue. These cp4 fuel pumps need to be recalled untill further research is done to correct the ongoing highly expensive issue that is putting all 2019 & 2020 vehicles with this pump at a safety risk within a rapid rate of only under 10,000 miles and or less. Ignoring the problem and doing nothing is irresponsible and negligible. The anxiety that this is causing my family let alone all the others, is very mentally and physically taxing on one's life. Please investigate this and help all of us involved get a little piece of mind and a more reliable product than the cp4, that is almost guaranteed to fail within a short amount of time.
Very good rant ...Im with you 1000% and I still havent recieved my new Bighorn after 22 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Far as I have figured out, this is a way for FCA to save a certain amount on each unit built! I just cant believe that Cummins would want to risk their reputation just to bow down to FCA! Their rep is just as strong as WALTER P. CHRYSLER AND HORASE AND JOHN DODGE used to be when it was THE MIGHTY CHRYSLER CORPORATION!!! I know all of them are rolling in their graves dealing with such an INSULT!!! FCA, GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER AND GET THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I am still ranting, all this ultra low sulpher (mispell) diesel fuel has dried out these CP 4 pumps that were designed for the over seas countries that have way more lubricating properites in their fuel thus causing friction problems with the cam and roller assemblies that result in scaring and flaking of the cheaper aluminum lower end and housing that kills our Cummins fuel systems!!! THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME VENT ABOUT A TRUCK THEY HAVENT SHIPPED IN 22 WEEKS!!!

You go brother, you've got the right. I mean, i know that we all get each other going and wound up over this stuff as we all vent you each other but as far as I'm concerned it's will justified., these are real life stories, not a small portion either. They are putting real lives at risk, whether it be due to a fire ( wich I've not heard of yet) or someone slamming you when all your go juice goes away, or no were to pull off a shoulder at and sitting in traffic or in my case , in the middle of a 500 mile trip through death valley with no gas station or dollar store for hundreds of miles in site, or pulling a car hauler. don't think we're being over dramatic. They can say with all the different dimple configurations that there trying to eliminate the problem and see what batch pans out. All of this Tension and anger and anxiety is very well justified. But for the sake of people mental and physical being, do your testing in the lab and on the dynos, not out on the rd. My wife wants to buy an automotive rated fire extinguisher to carry in cab of truck, that's pathetic that folks have to fear like that, I'll probably make a sharp maneuver and that thing will take off like torpedo. Fix the week links and let's move on stalantis fca ram whoever. Just remember with all of our venting be mindful not to abuse the loved one's at home, just online forum members  :confused:o_O:p

Quick response but no answers for me.
Mark is a great help. He can get your case escalated for you and put your notes in the system on your case and can call ahead to dealership and get them ready for your situation. He's not a miracle worker but I feel that he cares more about our concerns than anybody were going to communicate with on the phone and actually help move the case forward, although it may not be as quick as we'd like, he's got allot of us to help o_O:eek:. Keep the pressure on;)

Here you go Rich. These extinguishers are small, don't fly around, and have a good reputation. They should make your wife more comfortable. I will be picking up a couple. Elemental fire

I am getting more worried about my 2020 on the way when I have a perfectly good 2007 in my driveway. I know the forums usually attract a lot of negative experiences. Broken trucks are one thing but FCA's response to them is another! Their response is what has me worried. Does anybody have a friend in a TV news department? Bad press usually lights a fire under a company.

Everyone should carry at least one extinguisher. If not for yourself, for helping another.

I carry two in my cab, one in my bed toolbox, one in each side of the basement of the RV. All easily accessible yet securely mounted or stowed away.

I get that some are mad about the potential for fuel pump failure, but the overly dramatic rants in this thread aren't helping anyone's cause. You're more likely to get killed or maimed in an accident than by your truck starting on fire.

@Brewbud , solid, calm, helpful advice.

Holy mackerel, that little thing is insane, 50 seconds of retardant, I've never seen anything like that , not even 25 seconds from a big bottle. Very much appreciated sir, she will be happy wich intern reverberates through the entire house hold;). We have several in the rv but have never carried one in my personal vehicle before. Kind of ignorance on my part since being a ex commercial garbage man, ive dealt with probably a few hundred electrical and fluid and trash fires on my vehicle and most were put out, then there was the total losses at a time of 400k a piece, ouch. Thanks for your leg work

well the forms are working just fine. I went into this ready to order my truck October 1 when the HO is supposedly is going to be available. And now I’m not buying a new RAM 3500. i’m not gonna gamble and I definitely don’t want to deal with FCA and their BS response time or lack there of..... One guy like me not buying a truck isn’t going to change anything unfortunately.
Good luck to those affected I hope you get your trucks back soon!

Brewbud, why wouldn't you by a new truck ? it is such a low percentage rate of the fuel pump going bad. I know of 6 trucks that have well over 180,000 miles with not one hick-up with the CP4. and that's just me. Fords has the same pump and most of our subcontractors have the CP4 pump with not one issue and over 125,000 miles.

Hate to lose your voice 2m12v. Ill be honest, if I would of done better research and knew about the 19s having major cp4 issues, i probably would of either 1: demanded upon our deal that the dealer put a cp3 in it before i took ownership or 2: i would of waited until the fuel pump had been proven corrected.
So I'm sure I know how all that would of worked out, i would be 90,000 richer. All that said, i love my truck and wouldn't trade it for any other I've seen and it definitly is not perfect like I thought it would be for that amount of money. Several things I would like to improve for sure. I do hope you don't go far, and wait until this fuel debacle has been corrected and come back to team ram/ cummins. Still feel free to voice your opinions and views, everyone can add something

The mechanic stated he tested the fuel and it was okay. I have no way of knowing the quality of the fuel, it was purchased from a convenience store.

Aside from what the dealer provided in fuel when I bought the truck, this was my first fill up. I also filled the DEF tank with commercially purchased blue DEF.

The mechanic did not speak highly of the CP4, remarking that the CP3 has worked effectively for years on the Ram's.

I will update further after I hear more on Monday. The mechanic and service advisor both believe that the CP4 failed, it's not providing enough fuel pressure.

I have searched the internet and have struggled to find good information as to Ram's either experiencing or not experiencing failures due to fuel system issues. I am looking for information as much as the next person.

I'm a new member but Ive been drive Dodge Ram 2500's for a long time. I had a Cummins/Allison. I dumped it (traded it in) after about 18 months because it had that miserable front end problem and the front drive shaft CV joint broke after the recall fix! Anyway, the hair on the back of my neck stood straight up when you said "Got Gas at a Convience Store!" Man you're driving a $60,000-$70,000 truck and you get gas at a stop and rob to save $2.00 on a fill up. A good friend of mine lost the engine in his Corvette after buying a tank of gas at a 7-11. A mechanic at Chevrolet said there was more water in the tank than gas! I always run top tier 93 Octane in my 2014 6.4 litre HEMI. I hear that your mechanic said the fuel was okay. Just something to think about. When I had my Cummins I would drive 10 miles out of my way to get fuel at a top tier name brand station. Unfortunately the front end was so messed up on my truck I dumped it. Yep I considered that it had been in an accident before I bought it. Don't know. Anyway I way i've wasted a group of your time here, but good luck and don't give up on Ram pickups!
