No More DEF?

The part that people are missing:
- The 2027 regulations that were in place would have required a step function "increase" in diesel emissions control
- Making what we have so far - far worse for 2027
- Would have made it even harder to run the trucks if there was a sensor of software error.
- Just small errors would have shut down diesel vehicles and tractors - even less time to repair.

What was done and is in progress:
- Stopping 2027 emission controls from going into place
- Allowing the vehicles ( and tractors ) to run for - much longer with emissions control signal errors.

So farmers will still be able to plant and harvest their crops without an error light stopping the tractor and needing to call John Deere "instantly" during critical times. ( Deere does not allow people to work on their own tractors - only JD techs can work on a JD tractor by contract ).

People that use trucks to make a living ( and those that don't ) won't be down for months due to a part shortage.

RAM and the rest will be able to make a new software revision that allows a much greater tolerance to emission system errors than today for new trucks and for old ones.

I don't know "how much of an increased tolerance this will be, but the general nature of it will be to reduce the repair cost and down time.

So my understanding is that - it does not eliminate the official requirement to have the existing DEF system. It will allow the truck or tractor to run for much longer if you run out or if there is an error code.

DEF is just one part of the system - mostly aimed at reducing NOx. Even if the changes did eliminate DEF, it would not by itself fix the particle control system challenges for the 19-24s.

I am not sure, but I "think" that it has some impact on gasoline vehicles as well, especially for 2027.

It blocks California and some other states from implementing more strict emissions than the Federal standards, including an "EV mandate" vs " buy what vehicle makes sense to you personally."

It is unclear ( to me ) but it might also block California from forcing me to switch from a natural gas hot water heater to an electric hot water heater at home. TBD.

One thing is for sure.... The democrat party will NEVER stop trying to make your life more expensive and more difficult, unless you're a jobless degenerate moocher, a purple-haired street protester/agitator/troublemaker, a homeless drug addict, a member of the LBGTQ123LMNOP mafia, or an illegal alien. If you're just a normal, decent, hard-working, American family man, you're screwed.
 
Nice to see all the Trump haters and TDS. Lee Zeldin is pushing for no start/stop; no DEF; no DPF, etc. Will it happen? I believe that it will. It doesn't happen overnight and manufacturers will take several years to react and that's only if Republicans maintain control of the government past 2028. If the Dems get in, we'll go back to all of that global warming climate crap we got shoved down our throats that does nothing to help anyone at all.

Good old NY(istan) is hammering the state with this crap too. It is ridiculous, especially with our aged grid and the weather we see. As a utility guy….we can barely keep up now. Go all electric. Great idea. Meanwhile our governor(who is pushing this garbage legislation) has multiple homes with 6+ burner gas cook tops. ‍

Oh they often attempt to dispute the facts... its pretty much what they do. Democrats HATE the facts, they always have to come up with new spin, lies, misdirections, gerrymandered stats, and pure unaldulterated nonsense to dupe the masses. Ya know, stuff like global warming is an existential threat and voter ID is racist.

Hey guys. I moved this to OT knowing full well there would be unavoidable political discourse on this topic.

That said, please try to keep it factual as related to the topic, and civil without going off the rails. Else it's going to get closed.
 
here in Texas we dont have to get emissions test for dsl truck each year in order to get our tags renewed. lots of folks now deleting after warranty expires. found out last year when I took mine to get inspected and waited in line before the inspector got to me and said no more for diesels. coulda told me that when I first pulled in.
 
Isn’t there something about not federally prosecuting people who defeat DEF? Something about it being left to the states?

The states I drive in don’t care.

probably depends on where you live but pretty much everyone I know that has a ranch or property deletes theirs early on. I wouldnt mess with mine till the warranty runs out and at that point, maybe when the first big crap out or glitch happens I'll decide.
 
I haven’t really been following it much but I’m hearing the B7.2 will not come with a DEF system. The “compression release engine brake” (in other words Jake Brake) on that thing is going to sound insane.

If the 2028 doesn’t come with a Mega Cab and does come with this 7.2, I’ll get one even though I really wanted a Mega Cab.
